Job Description

The Research Associate – Data Analysis will provide institutional-level analytical support in managing, analysing, and interpreting quantitative data across ICRW’s research portfolio. The role will span projects in diverse thematic areas, including Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), Family Planning, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Adolescent Health, Women and Climate, and the Gender Equity Movement in Schools (GEMS), among others, based on organizational needs.

The role requires a strong foundation in quantitative and statistical analysis, including experience with large-scale datasets, application of advanced statistical techniques, and interpretation of complex data. Proficiency in using statistical software such as STATA, SPSS, R, or similar tools is essential. The Research Associate is expected to contribute to high-quality, evidence-based outputs through clear data interpretation, rigorous analysis, and visualization, while also collaborating effectively with research teams. This is an institutional position and will involve supporting both project-specific deliverables and cross-cutting organizational initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

Data Management and Statistical Analysis

  • Clean, manage, and analyze large-scale quantitative datasets using statistical software such as STATA, SPSS, or R.
  • Apply appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, including regression models and cross-tabulations.
  • Generate data tables, graphs, and summary statistics to support research insights.
  • Maintain systematic and well-documented datasets in alignment with organizational data standards.

Research and Technical Support

  • Assist in the design and development of quantitative tools and survey instruments.
  • Support project teams in integrating quantitative findings into mixed-methods research.
  • Contribute to the development of technical reports, research briefs, and presentations by translating analytical outputs into clear, actionable insights.
  • Institutional Engagement and Capacity Building 
  • Participate in internal technical discussions, learning sessions, and peer reviews.
  • Provide analytical support during proposal development, particularly around sampling, data analysis plans, and indicators.
  • Provide analytical support to ensure data quality and alignment with research objectives across different projects.
  • Support team members with statistical queries and promote good data practices across teams.

Other Responsibilities

  • Any other task may be allotted from time to time by the Supervisor/Director & Head Research and Program/Executive Director.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Biostatistics, Demography, Economics, Public Health, or other social science disciplines with a strong quantitative research component.
  • Additional training or certification in data management, statistical analysis, or data visualization is desirable.

Work Experience: 

  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a PhD, or 2–4 years for candidates with a Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • Proven ability to apply statistical techniques to real-world data, including regression modelling, trend analysis, and hypothesis testing, using tools such as Stata, SPSS, or R.
  • Experience working with large-scale survey or programmatic datasets, ensuring data integrity and drawing policy-relevant insights.
  • Exposure to diverse research domains, such as Sexual and Reproductive Health, Gender-Based Violence, Adolescent Health, Women and Climate, and Education, with the ability to adapt analytical approaches across themes.
  • Prior contributions to technical reports, research briefs, or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Familiarity with national and/or global research initiatives and emerging evidence in gender, health, and development is desirable.

Communication & Relationship Building: 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with experience developing research outputs such as reports, briefs, presentations, and knowledge products for varied audiences.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and represent the organization effectively in internal and external forums.
  • Proven capacity to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders including team members, partners, and government actors.

Work Ethics & Collaboration

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support project needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in dynamic environments.
