Research Intern - Clean Air

Job Description
The internship aims to support CEEW’s research and policy work on strengthening India’s industrial emissions monitoring ecosystem by:
- Generating evidence on the adoption, performance, and effectiveness of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) across Indian industries.
- Analysing industrial emissions datasets to identify trends, data gaps, compliance patterns, and implications for regulatory decision-making.
- Reviewing policies, regulations, and technical guidelines related to CEMS, air pollution control, and industrial emission reporting.
- Developing concise knowledge products—including summaries, visualisations, and briefs—that inform policy recommendations and stakeholder engagement.
- Building and maintaining a structured repository of best practices, regulatory updates, and technical references to support ongoing research.
- Conducting a mapping exercise of major industries, industrial clusters, NAMP stations, and CAAQMS locations, and coordinating associated data collection to strengthen spatial and policy analysis.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyse CEMS and industrial emissions datasets to assess adoption, performance, data quality, and compliance patterns across sectors.
- Support policy and regulatory research by reviewing guidelines, standards, and notifications related to CEMS and industrial air pollution control.
- Develop knowledge products—including data visualisations, briefs, and summary notes—to inform internal discussions and policy outreach.
- Conduct stakeholder mapping and provide logistical support for engagement, including identifying key regulators, industries, service providers, and monitoring agencies relevant to CEMS.
- Map large industries, industrial clusters, and NAMP/CAAQMS stations, and manage associated data collection to strengthen spatial and policy analysis.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in science/ engineering/ environmental policy / public policy / data science or a related discipline.
Key skills
- Must be proficient in Hindi, and English.
- Must have strong communication skills for effective, efficient, and adaptive verbal and written communication, and active listening.
- Must have strong research skills – the capability to carry out systematic literature review, familiarity with research methods is a bonus.
- Strong analytical skills with basic proficiency in data handling and visualisation (Excel, R, Python, or similar tools).
