About the Organization

Citizens for Public Leadership (CPL) is an independent, non-partisan initiative dedicated to advocating for progressive public policy in India. Our mission is to cultivate the next generation of public leaders equipped with the skills and mindset necessary to shape the nation's future.

Through our programs, we engage, educate, and mobilize young citizens, fostering the true potential of a participatory democracy. CPL’s primary objective is to empower youth with the leadership capabilities required to address challenges in the public sphere.

About the Fellowship

The Citizens for Public Leadership Fellowship is a 10-month, part-time program designed to provide comprehensive knowledge in various thematic areas of public policy. Over the past seven years, CPL alumni have gone on to pursue advanced studies at institutions such as Harvard Kennedy School, the London School of Public Policy, and Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. Additionally, we have mentored several alumni in founding non-profits.

Citizens for Public Leadership (CPL) invites applications from young professionals and students for a 10 month part-time fellowship program. The CPL Fellowship is designed to impart knowledge in various thematic areas that fall under the umbrella of public policy such as – Media, Law, Economics, Politics, Foreign Policy, Indian History, Social and Urban Policy and Technology. CPL fellowship is conducted virtually with sessions on weekends.

CPL will charge fellows a nominal fee of Rs. 30,000 for the year-long program.

Eligibility

CPL is looking for fellows who have demonstrated the ability to make an impact in the domain of public policy in India and who we believe can use the learnings from the fellowship in synergy with their existing qualifications and experience to set the narrative for public policy in India. For this purpose, we are looking for fellows with strong leadership skills and a commitment to public service. Fellows will be expected to show utmost dedication to the program and complete all coursework and projects for the fellowship period of one year.

Criteria:

• Minimum of 19 years and a maximum of 35 years of age.
• Bachelor’s degree (3 year minimum). However, final-year undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.
• Must be an Indian citizen.
• May work full-time or part-time, but must commit to completing the 10 month program, starting from February 2025 till December 2025.

• General Application Form - including personal contact, academic and professional information.
• Statement of Purpose - A personal statement explaining your interest in the fellowship and your passion and aptitude for public leadership (350 words).
• References - A reference from an employer, colleague or an academic staff (professor for final year/masters students).
• A detailed CV (max 2MB; PDF format).
• Essays (Compulsory): Choose one from below:
• In 400 words, choose a contemporary issue of your choice. The essay needs to be well researched and of sound academic rigour. Feel free to share your opinion in the essay. OR
• Write a well-researched policy analysis on a topic of your choice with relevant facts and references that will highlight your ability to explore complex public policy issues in 400 words.
