About the Organization

As part of Canada’s foreign affairs and development efforts, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) champions and funds research and innovation within and alongside developing regions to drive global change. We invest in high-quality research in developing countries, share knowledge with researchers and policymakers for greater uptake and use, and mobilize our global alliances to build a more sustainable and inclusive world.

Our head office is located in Ottawa, Canada, while five regional offices keep us close to the researchers and projects we fund. The regional offices are located in Montevideo, Uruguay; Nairobi, Kenya; Dakar, Senegal; Amman, Jordan; and New Delhi, India.

About the Award

Democratic and Inclusive Governance Climate-Resilient Food Systems Global Health Education and Science Sustainable Inclusive Economies

This year, IDRC will offer research awards related to these development areas or themes:  

• Climate-resilient food systems (based in Nairobi)
• Democratic and inclusive governance (based in New Delhi)
• Education and science   
• Ethics in development research  
• Global health
• Policy and evaluation, and  
• Sustainable inclusive economies.

All awards will be based in Ottawa except for the Climate-resilient food systems award that will be based in Nairobi, and the Democratic and inclusive governance award based in New Delhi.

Budget

• Awards in Ottawa - Salary for 1 year: CAD 47,301 - 54,756.
• Award in Nairobi - Salary for 1 year: 2,036,836 - 3,396,801 KES
• Award in New Delhi - Salary for 1 year: 628,638 - 1,148,048 INR

Eligibility

• For the awards based in Ottawa: Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, temporary foreign workers with a valid work permit and students from low or middle-income countries enrolled in a Canadian university with a valid study permit.
• For the awards based in the regions, the candidates must hold citizenship of that country.
• Students who are finishing a master’s program or researchers who have completed a master’s program within the last three years
• Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a master’s degree.
