About the Organization

Japan Water Forum (JWF) serves as a contact point for exchange and cooperation among water stakeholders in Japan and abroad, such as UN agencies, international organizations, development banks, governments, private companies, researchers, and NGOs. Based on this network, JWF promotes an understanding of the fundamental impact of water on everyone’s lives, leading to decisive action to address the water issues on the planet for a world where everyone enjoys the lasting benefits and values of safe water. With the 3rd World Water Forum (Lake Biwa and Yodo River Basin, Japan) held in 2003, JWF is founded an organization in the following year.

About the Grant

The Japan Water Forum Fund (JWF Fund) was founded in 2005 and is operated solely by JWF.  The JWF Fund aims to contribute to the solution of local water-related issues in developing countries by assisting in the implementation of sustainable solutions led by grass-roots organizations.  Every year, the JWF publicly seeks out projects to assist and provides grants of up to USD1,500 per project, adopted through an assessment process.  We value projects that utilize local resources, knowledge, and technologies, and include a sustainable operations and maintenance scheme.

During the past 20 years, the JWF Fund has supported 199 projects in 32 countries, benefiting more than 273,000 people. The Fund is made up of JWF membership fees and public donations.

In 2023, the JWF Fund selected 5 projects from 5 countries from 208 submissions coming from 32 countries.

How to Apply

The application period is from 10:00 on 12th June to 18:00 on 17th July, 2024 (JST).  Around five organizations will be selected. To apply for the fund, please read through the guidelines beforehand and use the official application form.
