AIFT Statement of Business:

The American India Foundation Trust (AIFT) is committed to improving the lives of India’s underprivileged, with a special focus on women, children, and youth AIFT does this through high-impact interventions in education, health, and livelihoods because poverty is multidimensional AIFT’s unique value proposition is its broad engagement between communities, civil society, and expertise, thereby building a lasting bridge between the United States and India With India operations headquartered in Delhi NCR, AIFT has impacted 16.51 million lives across 36 states and Union Territories of India.

The American India Foundation Trust, along with the state government of Madhya Pradesh and other partners, has committed to promote mental well-being among 100,000 school-going adolescents from grades 6 to 12, over five years.

The project intends to address a pressing public health need i.e., mental health and well-being of adolescents. Adolescence is the period of the emergence of most mental health disorders contributing significantly to the mental health burden. Globally, an estimated one in seven young people experience a mental disorder. A WHO stated that among adults with a mental health disorder, 50% report first experiencing a mental disorder during the adolescent phase. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the mental health crisis across the globe.

The major challenges in India are early identification of mental health problems, treatment gaps, lack of professionals, and interventions that address the same. Public stigma is a major cause that prevents people from seeking counseling and treatment. Additionally, lack of access to mental health support remains in the country, especially in rural areas.

It is these challenges that this RFP proposes to address.

Scope of Work/ Specification/ Configuration and key Deliverables:

AIFT intends to demonstrate and scale up a mobile-based application under its Adolescent Mental Health and Well-being Model. This model is largely tech-driven and is expected to be successful in reaching out to underserved populations. The overall approach of the intervention model, while relying substantially on technology, also has a pragmatic approach that includes facilitated classroom sessions for grades 6 to 8 and a major emphasis on self-guided access (using the mobile-based app) for higher grades.

Towards this, AIFT intends to engage the services of an agency towards the development and deployment of the application for Adolescent Mental Health and Well-being. We foresee the process to involve the following three phases:

  • Phase 1 – Needs assessment
  • Phase 2 – Development, preliminary testing and finalization of Mobile App and Dashboard
  • Phase 3 – Deployment, continued data analysis, documentation and evidence building.
