About the Organization

In the course of his profession, Mr. McCarthy, Jr. traveled extensively and witnessed firsthand the social and evangelical work of the Catholic Church overseas. Responding to a compliment once paid him in recognition of his business success, he casually replied: “I just sit around and dream.” One of these dreams was to give back a portion of the blessings God had bestowed on him, as well as provide future generations of his family the opportunity to become educated and responsible Catholic philanthropists.

The Foundation’s present day Board of Trustees is comprised of the founder’s descendants, distinguished clergy, prominent business leaders, and noted attorneys. To date, The Loyola Foundation has awarded more than $50 million in small grants benefiting some 6,000 projects around the world.
