Description of RFP

For decades, nutrition has been a top development focus. Nutritional security is a global topic that continues to pose a significant burden for underdeveloped countries. India is ranked 101 out of 116 countries in the Global Hunger Index-2022. India has a score of 30.3, indicating that country has a major hunger problem. Although India is the world's second largest producer of fruits and vegetables, it also has the world's second largest population of undernourished people. Long-term impacts of malnutrition include cognitive and growth deficits, as well as lowered immunity to infection. Vegetables play a significant role in our daily lives, especially for vegetarians' nutritional security. They are a good source of vitamins, proteins, and minerals. The importance of vegetables and fruits in terms of human nutrition, national economies, and health standards is well acknowledged. According to the dietary advice, an adult should consume 85 g of fruits and 300 g of vegetables per day for a balanced diet, however the current level of vegetable production in the country only allows for a per capita consumption of 120 g vegetables per day. Nutrition, kitchen, and home gardens have all been found to help resource-poor rural households in developing countries improve their food security. This is one of the simplest ways to ensure that a balanced diet with appropriate macro and micronutrients is available and it is especially crucial.

By addressing these issues, HCLFoundation aims in providing Nutrition Garden which is a low cost, scientific model of home garden with variety of nutritious, vegetables and fruits plants produced throughout the year organically. Objective of a Nutrition Garden is to improve the dietary requirement of the rural households and improve the malnutrition indices by providing ½ kg of fresh naturally grown vegetables from Standard Nutrition Garden to rural household throughout the year in sustained manner of Hardoi district.

The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to appoint an institution / social sector organization, which would undertake all the activities pertaining to establishment and management of Nutrition Garden in households through regular counselling and monitoring to ensure that the requirements of the intervention are met and the end beneficiary obtains the desired result.
