Background of the Girls Education Program
Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program centred on a multi-year life skills curriculum, supports adolescent girls as they improve learning and life outcomes, helping them graduate with the resilience and the ability to lead, collaborate, think critically and make decisions that they need to address pressing challenges. The program provides support from Grades 6 – 12 when girls are especially at risk of falling behind or dropping out of school entirely. The depth of our engagement allows girls to strengthen their life skills as they advance, fostering better long-term outcomes for girls to succeed in their education and lives after graduation. Girls receive a contextualized program based on need and grade level that consists of four main components:
- Life Skills education
- Individual Mentorship
- Community Engagement
- Material Support
About the Course:
The Course has been designed to be uploaded on Diksha, the National platform for Teachers for eLearning content, and the Hindi version of the course has been tested on the Platform. Room to Read India, now proposes to contextualize the said course in English language to support the Government of Telangana’s initiative in capacitating the teachers on Life Skills Education. Toward this, it is proposed to hire services of an agency/consultant to competent enough to deliver the current assignment of contextualization of the course from Hindi to English. There are three key areas –Self awareness, Self-efficacy and Social awareness as per Room to Read's lifeskills framework. For convenience and better articulation, we chosen key three areas based our lifeskills framework. we would propose to start with 5 modules- Life skills, Self confidence, Managing emotions, Empathy, Gender which falls under the category in phase one.
Assignment Objective – The objective of the current assignment through this Terms of Reference is to Translate, Contextualise, and Adapt Room To Read India’s Interactive Digital Course on Life Skills Education available in Hindi to English.
A. Scope for Work and Expectation
Room to Read, India, is looking for a development vendor to execute the following tasks:
- Translation- Accurate translation of all textual content, including instructions, written text, voice over, exercises, assessments, and explanations, from Hindi to English.
- Contextualization and Adaptation: Ensure cultural and regional relevance by adapting examples, scenarios, and cultural references from Hindi to English. Modify content to align with English-speaking audiences without compromising the integrity of the course.
- HTML 5 Integration-
- Embed translated text and content into the existing HTML5 format while maintaining the interactive and functional aspects of the course.
- Replace Hindi Voice over with translated English voice overs
- Ensure the course's functionality and interactivity in English matches the original Hindi version.
- Quality Assurance:
- Rigorous proofreading and editing to guarantee linguistic accuracy, consistency, and coherence in the English-translated content.
- Testing and verification of the HTML5 format to ensure proper functionality and display of the course in English.
B. What Room to Read will Provide:
- Provide the original course materials and open files in HTML5 format and necessary assets.
- Offer clear guidelines, references, and context to aid the translation and adaptation process.
C. Final Deliverables
- Final Four modules accurately translated and contextualized into English.
- Diksha Specific Package
- SCORM package
- Integrate the translated content into the HTML5 format while ensuring functionality and visual consistency.
- Conduct quality assurance and revisions as needed.
D. Timeline: final documents with all suggested edits by 1st December'24.
E. Experience and Qualifications
- The consultant/agency must have demonstrated experience in the area of Translating/ delivering online or blended or e-learning content for children, trainers, educators, etc
- The consultant/Agency must have a demonstrated passion and expertise in the area and should be highly adaptable to a dynamic work environment
- The consultant/agency should have a strong lens of gender equality cemented in his/her/ work.
- The consultant/Agency must have demonstratable experience in developing content teachers, educators, and students.
- The consultant/agency must be open to critical and constructive feedback.
- The consultant/agency should be proficient in Hindi and English
- The consultant/agency should have experience with creating interactive content or digital courses for Diksha.
F. Technical Evaluation Criteria
- The consulting individual/agency must have demonstratable previous experience in developing and producing e-learning materials related to education or libraries.
- The agency should have competent members with design expertise on contextualizing storyboarding illustrations, sketches and animation to suit the need of the state of Telangana, i.e., cultural and regional relevance by adapting examples, scenarios, and cultural references from Hindi to English
- The consulting agency must have experience of translating contents from Hindi to English including textual content, instructions, written text, voice over, exercises, assessments, and explanations.
- The consulting agency must have experience of working on HTML 5 integration
G. Payment Terms
- No advance payment
- Payment will be done in a staggered manner. 25% payment will be done after submission of module 1, 25% payment after delivery of Module 2 and 3, and rest of the payment after submission and upload of the final e-course.
- Final payment will be done based on the approval of the successful completion of the assignment.
H. Please Note
- The TDS will apply to the consultancy fee.
Note: For all the above-mentioned scope of work there will be a minimum of 3 to 4 rounds of feedback and suggestions that will come from Room to Read on each session and the consultant should be open to that.

- Read the SOW/TOR thoroughly before applying.
- Only Shortlisted agency/candidates will be contacted and might be called for a face-to-face interaction with the panel.
- Any incomplete application or process deviation, the proposals will automatically be rejected.
Proposals received after the prescribed deadline will not be considered.
- Selected Candidate will be required to sign and abide by the Child Protection policy of Room to Read.
