Job Description/Responsibilities
Reporting to the Lead Communications with Matrix reporting Head of Partnership and Communications Unit, the Communications Analyst supports the formulation and implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies to increase the standing and awareness of UN Women with partners, the media and the public. The Communications Analyst promotes a client-oriented approach in UN Women.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
Strategic Administrative Support for Communications and Advocacy Initiatives:
- Collect and present essential background information to inform and develop a cohesive Country Office (CO) communications and advocacy strategy.
- Deliver logistical support for strategic advocacy initiatives and campaigns, including organizing and facilitating roundtable discussions, press conferences, and high-visibility public events.
- Contribute inputs for the creation of impactful briefing materials and press releases to ensure alignment with strategic advocacy goals.
Development and Execution of Advocacy Materials:
- Identify and curate compelling storylines and achievements that showcase the CO impact and progress.
- Draft strategic advocacy content, such as press releases, articles, key messages, and other communication materials that amplify the organization's voice.
- Oversee translation reviews and coordinate with vendors like printers to ensure high-quality production and delivery of advocacy materials.
- Maintain an organized digital library and comprehensive database of reference materials, photos, and communication assets to facilitate efficient access and retrieval.
- Ensure compliance with Regional Office (RO)/Headquarters (HQ) guidelines for content creation and publication.
Management of Digital and Social Media Presence:
- Strategically gather and create content for the CO website and social media platforms, in alignment with key objectives and campaigns.
- Execute updates and manage content scheduling for the website and social media channels to ensure consistent, timely, and engaging communication.
- Maintain and manage digital archives, databases, and systems to support the CO digital communication infrastructure.
Strategic Media Relations and Engagement:
- Build and maintain an updated database of media contacts, fostering relationships that enhance the visibility of the CO work.
- Respond strategically to information requests from the media, as assigned, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of key messages.
- Aggregate and compile insightful content for speaking points to strengthen the organization’s messaging and media presence.
Facilitation of Knowledge Management and Best Practices:
- Identify, document, and share best practices and lessons learned to promote continuous improvement in communications and advocacy efforts.
- Organize and deliver targeted training sessions and workshops on strategic communication practices to build capacity within the organization.
- Facilitate the strategic exchange of information with HQ, RO, and other COs to foster a collaborative and informed communications environment.
Support for Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives:
- Contribute to the planning and execution of special projects related to web, digital, and media initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall strategic objectives.
Additional Strategic Responsibilities:
- Undertake other duties, as required, that contribute to the efficient functioning and strategic priorities of the Office and the Organization, maintaining flexibility to adapt to evolving needs.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Implement a strategic communications and advocacy plans.
- Organize and execute high-impact advocacy events and campaigns.
- Produce high-quality advocacy materials, including press releases and key messages.
- Manage and update the CO website and social media for maximum engagement.
- Build and maintain strong media relations, providing timely information and talking points.
- Document best practices and deliver training workshops to enhance team communication skills.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism or relevant field is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in external communications and advocacy strategy implementation, preferably in complex organizational environments.
- Experience with a reputed national or international PR firm is highly advantageous.
- Proven expertise in leveraging social media and digital communication to drive engagement and visibility.
- Strong proficiency in office software (MS Word, Excel, PPT, Canva, etc.) and handling web-based management systems is essential, contributing to streamlined operations.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced digital communication skills and familiarity with modern IT tools to enhance content delivery and stakeholder engagement.
- Capability in using data management tools to support strategic communications.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English and one other relevant language (Hindi) is essential.
- Knowledge of another Indian language is desirable.
