Job Description/Responsibilities

The candidate will be primarily responsible for providing technical and strategic support to the project implementation partner, the National Biodiversity Authority, during the execution of the project.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to conceptual development of project activities and operational plans in close collaboration with the team.
  • Support the project implementation partners with jointly agreed project activities and report progress as per pre-determined reporting protocols.
  • Identify and support with developing synergies and collaborations with other ongoing programmes and initiatives of NBA / MoEFCC in the sector.
  • Ensure smooth flow of communication and information between NBA, MoEF&CC and GIZ.
  • Monitor and analyse relevant political, technical, and economic developments in India related to biodiversity conservation and policy.
  • Organise and facilitate workshops, stakeholder meetings and other events.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Post graduate degree in relevant discipline, e.g. Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Information Technology (with relevance to bioinformatics), or related field.
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in biodiversity conservation and policy, natural resource management.
  • Experience in working with state / national government agencies (NBA, SBBs), research institutions, or on biodiversity-related projects.
  • Prior experience in working with Biological Diversity Act 2002 and Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) mechanisms, participatory documentation of local biological resources, traditional knowledge systems, and local biodiversity management is preferred.
  • Proven experience in development cooperation within an international organisation or as a consultant; experience in German development cooperation is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities and project partners / consultants.
  • Ability to facilitate stakeholder consultations and participatory processes effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, work pro-actively, manage deadlines, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to conceptual and strategic development, operational planning, and knowledge sharing within a project team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel often to Delhi and project pilot states.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Tamil desirable.
  • Experience with e-governance systems, digital tools and databases for biodiversity documentation.
