About the Organization
IT for Change aims for a society in which digital technologies contribute to human rights, social justice and equity. Most mainstream approaches to digital technologies for development are either techno-utopic or promote a market-fundamentalist approach, often both together. A digital makeover of economies and societies has become a convenient opportunity for wholesale corporatisation of social systems, displacing the cornerstone ethics of democratic participation, commons, social justice and gender equality from development discourse.
Job Description
We are looking for a recent graduate with an interest in the social and development sector, and prior experience with handling and organising events, to join our team as a Junior Consultant. This consultancy offers deep immersion into the space of digital rights and emerging narratives in this domain. The consultant will work on organizing two key events:
- A high-profile national event on digital public infrastructures, public innovation, and ethics
- A learning institute for early career women researchers.
In addition to holding administrative charge of these events, the Junior Consultant will also have a limited opportunity to engage in research work on the platform economy, as part of one of our ongoing projects.
Responsibilities
- Planning, organising and management of the national event and learning institute, including but not limited to:
- liasing with vendors
- coordinating travel, accommodation and logistics
- support with substantive agenda-setting
- Collaborating with internal teams to ensure seamless execution of relevant tasks
- Support with literature review and field work as and when required.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Recent graduate with an interest in the social sector
- Ability to interface with different stakeholders and vendors
- Demonstrable communication skills
- Demonstrable organising skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with a high ownership of tasks
- Deep familiarity with the use of spreadsheets
