Financial Inclusion Improves Sanitation and Health (FINISH) Society is a multistate not-for- profit NGO registered in 2010 under the Societies Registration Act 1860. FINISH Society is working to promote sustainable and inclusive access of water, sanitation and hygiene services to impact health and environment. We have a team of field level work force in all major locations in India such as of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Punjab and Bihar. We work in collaboration with various Corporate/CSR partners, local government agencies, banks, other NGO partners, etc. So far, we have constructed more than 10 lakhs safe sanitation facilities, changing and impacting lives of many rural and peri urban population in the country.
Job Description
The Project Officer – Behavior Change & Coordination plays a key role in driving behavior change strategies and coordinating stakeholders for the successful implementation of solid waste management (SWM) initiatives. The position is focused on community mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and promoting sustainable waste management practices at the household, institutional, and municipal levels.
Job Responsibilities
Behavior Change Communication (BCC):
- Design and implement behavior change strategies that promote waste segregation at source, recycling, and reduction of single-use plastics.
- Develop and roll out Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials tailored to different target groups (households, schools, businesses, etc.).
- Conduct awareness campaigns, door-to-door outreach, school programs, workshops, and events to educate communities on best practices in waste management.
- Promote behavioral shifts towards sustainable practices such as composting, recycling, and reducing waste generation.
- Track and evaluate behavior change initiatives through surveys, feedback mechanisms, and data analysis.
Stakeholder Coordination & Engagement:
- Facilitate collaboration between municipal authorities, private waste management operators, community-based organizations (CBOs), residents’ welfare associations (RWAs), and citizens.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for community groups and key stakeholders throughout project implementation.
- Organize coordination meetings, training sessions, and capacity-building workshops for local stakeholders, including sanitation workers and volunteers.
- Support the formation and strengthening of community groups, green committees, or eco-clubs to sustain behavior change efforts.
- Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor the impact of behavior change initiatives by collecting and analyzing data on waste segregation rates, participation in programs, and community feedback.
- Prepare field reports, progress updates, and case studies showcasing successful behavior change interventions.
- Provide insights and recommendations to adapt BCC strategies based on monitoring findings.
Technical Support:
- Provide guidance to waste management teams on community engagement techniques and behavior change methodologies.
- Ensure gender-sensitive and inclusive approaches in all communication and engagement activities.
- Contribute to the design and execution of innovative solutions for community participation in waste management.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, Mass Communication, Public Health, or related fields. A Master’s degree is an asset.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in behavior change communication, community mobilization, or urban development, preferably in the solid waste management or environmental sector.
- Proven experience coordinating multi-stakeholder projects at the community or municipal level.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of Behavior Change Communication (BCC) strategies and community engagement tools.
- Experience in designing and implementing IEC campaigns and awareness programs.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups.
- Strong coordination and relationship-building skills, particularly with government bodies, communities, and civil society organizations.
- Good organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Hindi and English, with strong report writing skills. Preference will be given to candidates who are proficient in Gujarati.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of municipal solid waste management (MSWM) processes and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience working with urban local bodies (ULBs), NGOs.
- Familiarity with digital tools for community engagement and data collection.
