Job Description

WWF-India is one of the largest organisations engaged in wildlife and nature conservation over the past 50 years. We are inviting applications from candidates for the vacancy of Project Officer to be based in our Tezpur office.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and lead surveys to understand social dimensions of elephant conservation
  • Collect available secondary data and baseline on Human-Elephant conflicts in Arunachal Pradesh
  • Prepare technical reports and draft manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Take part in conservation planning workshops with key stakeholders to design a conservation plan for Asian elephants in Arunachal Pradesh

Programme Development and Fund-Raising

Programme Implementation and Technical Support

  • Carry out social surveys on land-use, agriculture, conservation conflicts in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
  • Support WWF-India team in drafting technical reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts pertaining to Elephant Conservation.
  • Support in designing surveys and data collection protocols for studying social dimensions of biodiversity conservation in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam
  • Support the compilation and analysis of primary and secondary data including spatial data and creation of maps
  • Support in technical training as and when required on human-elephant conflict management.

Administration, Financial Management and Monitoring

  • Manage a team of consultants and project associates and coordinate field work across the elephant range in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

Networking, Coordination and Communication

  • Coordinate with State Forest Department, Local and Indigenous Communities, and other key stakeholders for collaborative conservation efforts in Arunachal Pradesh
  • Lead consultations with Local and Indigenous communities and other stakeholders pertaining to livelihoods, land-use, agriculture, local aspirations with the aim of embedding biodiversity conservation considerations into local development planning

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Masters/Post Graduate Degree in Sociology/ Social Science/Conservation/Ecology/Biology/Natural Sciences/Environmental Psychology/Environmental Science or any allied field
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience post Masters
  • Experience carrying out studies on social dimensions of human-wildlife relationships
  • Proficiency in study design, data collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative social science data
  • Proficiency in technical writing such as reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts
  • Demonstrated experience in working with local communities for biodiversity conservation
  • Ability to lead a team and carry out field work in remote locations of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam
  • Prior work experience in Arunachal Pradesh
