Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Senior Manager who will lead the low carbon portfolio business development, research, management, and expansion of the exciting work undertaken by the Climate change and sustainability practice of IPE Global especially around low carbon pathways and climate adaptation. She/he will primarily be responsible for portfolio development which includes gaining early business insights, identifying opportunities, leading proposal writing, setting up teams upon win for implementation, and providing oversight for the successful delivery of the project.

The Sr Manager will work with and mentor a team of young and energetic development professionals. The work might require frequent field visits and coordination with various stakeholders. She/he will have to perform primary and secondary data collection and analysis. She/he should be equipped to perform and should have knowledge on Contribute to research including energy-economy modelling, development of sectoral roadmaps, policy analysis, and thematic studies on topics such as just energy transition, climate resilience, and low-carbon technology impacts.

The Climate Change and Sustainability practice at IPE Global has substantial experience delivering multiyear and high-impact programmes for multi-lateral, bi-lateral funders along with philanthropic partners. These programmes are supported by leading donors and foundations and are implemented in partnership with coveted research institutions, civil society organisations, and public institutions. The Senior Manager will work with a team of   high-performing professionals to lead the expansion and management of the exciting work undertaken by the Climate Change and Sustainability practice of IPE Global in India, South Asia and South East Asia and in East Africa.

Job Responsibilities

Climate Mitigation Portfolio Development (50%)

• Identifying new business opportunities within India and South Asia, Africa in developing leads, and contacting potential donors.
• Keeping up to date with trendswithin the sector,undertaking outreach activities, generating reports, and presenting an analysis of business development progress.
• Expanding on Climate Change and Sustainability’s current work, identifygrowth opportunities in close partnership with team leadersand senior management. Contribute to research including energy-economy modelling, development of sectoral roadmaps, policy analysis, and thematic studies on topics such as just energy transition, climate resilience, and low-carbon technology impacts.
• Be an “ambassador” for the organisation in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes; be seen as a thought-leader in the area of energy finance and climate mitigation
• Writing high-quality technical proposals and contributing to all aspects of financial proposal development.
• Building quality consortiums by understanding existing capabilities and experience, bringing together a relevant team to fulfill prospective client objectives and goals, and assisting team members to win businesswith identified leads.
• Contributing to weekly/monthly/annual presentations, including events in Business Development updates, strategy meets,etc, when required.
• Understand and interpret findings from energy-economy modelling in India in the context of low-carbon development pathways

Research and Programme Management (40%):

• Coordinate with project implementation teams to ensure the quality and timeliness of deliverables.
• Contribute to the development and co-creation of alternate climate policy scenarios for India with relevant partners.
• Support data collection and analysis for energy-economy modelling initiatives within the team.
• Coordinate events for engagement with partners through roundtables, seminars, workshops, policy dialogues, training, and other communication and outreach activities.
• Contribute to the production of event summary reports and proceedings.
• Help develop tools to track and strengthen climate action planning.
• Publish research publications, thematic studies, low-carbon roadmaps, policy briefs, and blogs on topics related to long-term climate strategies, decarbonisation, low-carbon sectoral roadmaps, sectoral transition strategies, and just transitions.
• Leveraging his/her domain expertise in finance to drive the CCS practice’s international portfolio on climate mitigation and energy finance
• Stay updated on the policy landscape, sectoral developments, and industry trends about climate policy and just transitions.
• Work in close coordination with project teams and undertake quality delivery.
• Expand the Climate Mitigation team by assisting in hiring the right set of people at a Research Analyst and Programme Associate level to drive the strategy and execute the plan Oversee routine project management activities, including reviewing and submitting project reports to donors, developing budgets and work plans, and backstop operations as needed.
• Develop appropriate collaterals to showcase IPE Global’s work.
• Build, structure, and develop knowledge to share internally, within the organization, and at the ecosystem level

Leadership and Mentoring (10%)

• Manage a team of multi-disciplinary team of Analysts and Associate Mangers on a day-to-day basis
• Assist Senior Management and consultants with financial reporting and budgeting for specific projects
• Support cross-sectoral teams to build various multi-disciplinary portfolios around climate change
• Performand design field surveys not limited to questionnaire designing, coordinating with fieldstaffs
• Motivate, guide and mentor junior team members to help them deliver at their best.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• Master’s degree in with a specialization in Climate Science, power systems, energy systems, renewable energy technologies, or and/or other relevant field is a must. About 8-12 years of relevant experience.

Professional Attributes:

• Previous experience developing proposals for bilateral/multilateral organizations, foundations and philanthropies.
• Hands-on experience in structuring commercial proposals.
• Experience of working with Governments and international aid agencies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• A fair understanding of satellite imaging and modeling tools that are used for risk assessments.
• Prior experience in handling and managing climate risks and adaptation/mitigation-related projects.
• Previous experience in leading proposal development for bilateral/multilateral organizations, foundations, and philanthropies.
• Excellent presentation skills
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Demonstrable team management experience, and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in multi-cultural and multi-ethnic teams.
• Preference for candidates with knowledge and skills in project management
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with a commitment to mentoring and team development.
• Demonstrable team management experience and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to consult, influence and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
• Project management expertise, including the management of large project teams.
