About WaterAid India:
Jal Seva Charitable Foundation (JSCF) is registered in India as a not-for-profit company under Chapter 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. JSCF, is an associate member of the WaterAid federation and uses the brand name ‘WaterAid’ in India.
WaterAid India seeks to improve the quality of life of 5,000,000 households – with a special emphasis on the vulnerable by 2029 through the provision of climate-resilient and sustainable WASH services via demonstration, institution strengthening, and the effective utilization of public resources. WaterAid India’s (WAI) country office is based in New Delhi with State Offices in Bengaluru, Bhopal,Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Patna and Raipur. We currently have a presence in ten states in the country.
- WAI’s Programme focus in the next five years is on ensuring access to safe and assured drinking water in the households, as well as safely managed sanitation at both the household and habitation level. Further, we seek to ensure that anganwadis, schools and health care facilities have adequate and appropriate water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure. Finally, we seek to create integrated water and sanitation solutions in small towns. In all of these efforts, ensuring climate resilience of infrastructure and systems is critical. We seek to do this through demonstration and the provision of technical and knowledge support to governments at all levels who can facilitate adoption on scale. Overall Responsibilities:
- Develop thematic approach for working on an integrated water and sanitation solution that is climate resilience for Small Towns
- Identify pathways to strengthen and empower Urban Local Bodies and formal and informal collectives of citizens to create an institutional model to plan, design, implement, manage and operate
- Facilitate community-based mapping, planning and development of climate resilient and integrated water and sanitation solutions for Small Towns
- Identify appropriate low-cost and nature-based solutions for Small Towns
- Ensure adherence to technical standards and compliance with technical guidelines and policies in the project
- Provide support and monitor timely completion of all infrastructure work planned in the project as per defined standards and norms
- Support and guide field teams to ensure standardized outputs of infrastructure interventions in the project
- Develop capacity building plans related to WASH interventions in context of Small Towns
- Strengthen community processes for operation and maintenance of WASH infrastructure
Specific Responsibilities:
- Support in engagement with Stakeholders at ULB level and provide need based technical support.
- Lead technical needs assessment process and develop detailed estimates and designs as per identified needs.
Eligibilities and requirements:
Education
• Full time Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering/ Structural Engineering/Environmental Engineering/Urban Planning/Architecture/ Hydrogeology /Hydrology or any other related field (with extensive knowledge of water and sanitation projects)
Experience
- At least 6 years of relevant work experience in the area of urban sectors (Urban Governance/Sanitation/Water/Solid Waste Management/Environment) at the city/state level.
- Strong conceptual and technical skills related to designing and implementing decentralized and low-cost wastewater treatment, groundwater recharge, water conservation solutions are desirable.
- Candidate should have a good understanding of organizations and individuals working in the water and sanitation sector including government policies/reforms in the urban sector.
- Professional experience in documentation and research, and project management will be an asset.
- A person having experience working in the programme/technical support unit of a state will be desirable for this position.
Attitude/Aptitude:
• Able to communicate clearly and sensitively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Passionate about bringing change directly and through leverage, convergence and alignment with Government
• Ability to work with colleagues in a culture of mutual respect and learning
Other specifications:
- Good knowledge of the issues related to the WASH in Urban context and sector
- A clear and sound understanding of national development context, especially in water and sanitation
- Leadership skills - Strategic, decisive, action oriented, and adaptable
- Strong ability to lead, nurture and empower staff and partners at every level
- Fluency in verbal and written English and Hindi language
- Superior networking abilities
