Since its inception in 1999 and based in Hyderabad, WASSAN has worked intensively in four states and engages extensively through networks in another ten states.

Job Description

The consultant will act as a financial architect and capacity builder to professionalize FPOs in the project landscape. The primary goal is to develop bankable business plans, secure formal funding, and establish premium market linkages for Coffee, Cocoa, Cashew, Turmeric, and Ginger etc.

The consultant will drive the following phases:

Diagnostic Assessment (Weeks 1-2):

  • Diagnostic desk based assessment of FPO profiles (10 FPOs) in the project.
  • Validate the findings of the above, in consultation with FPO management.
  • Validate commodity value chains and identifying processing losses and price realization gaps.

Business Planning (Weeks 3-12):

  • Develop 3-5 year road map of FPOs business, including the capacity and infrastructure gaps, financial projections and including working capital analysis based on harvest cycles and CAPEX for infrastructure (e.g., micro-washing stations, turmeric boilers).
  • Detailed business plan for the FPO in agreement with the FPO management
  • Based on the current financials of the FPOs, and the business plan , suggest the list of potential agencies to access finances (Credit, Grant, Others)

Market Linkage & Deal Facilitation (Weeks 12-16):

  • Map potential market linkages and buy-back opportunities with buyers for each FPO.

Key Deliverables

  • Diagnostic assessment report.
  • Business Plans: Business roadmap and detailed business plan for each FPO.
  • Report comprising of list of financial agencies and the market linkages.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Education: Master’s degree in Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics, or MBA (Rural Development focus).
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in agricultural value chain development and FPO promotion.

Specific Skills:

  • Financial Access: Proven track record of raising finance for FPOs from formal institutions (Experience with AIF, Samunnati, NABKISAN etc ).
  • Commodity Knowledge: Deep expertise in Coffee, Cocoa, and Spices value chains.
  • Context: Experience working in tribal landscapes (Eastern Ghats/Odisha) and fluency in Telugu/Hindi is highly desirable.
  • Market linkages experience is highly desirable.
