Created in 2002 by a group of prominent activists and donors, the Fund fills a critical gap in the charity sector by connecting grassroots human rights defenders to flexible funding, long-term strategic support, and a global network of allies.
Job Description
The Project Coordinator will oversee the full grant-making cycle, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and strong relationships with grantees. This role involves participating in selection of grantees processes, conducting due diligence, managing contractual procedures, tracking budgets, reviewing reports, and facilitating effective communication and knowledge exchange between stakeholders. The consultant will play a key role in ensuring that grants are managed with accountability, transparency, and in alignment with the organizational mission.
This is a remote position requiring a high degree of initiative, consistent, open and transparent communication and the ability to complete work on time, without being micromanaged. The consultant should be comfortable working across time zones, managing multiple priorities in a virtual environment, and proactively identifying solutions to streamline grant management operations.
Job Responsibilities
Due Diligence & Compliance
- Conduct due diligence on potential grantees, assessing financial health, governance structures, risk assessment and mitigation and operational capacity.
- Ensure all grants comply with internal policies, donor requirements, and relevant legal frameworks.
Contract Management & Grant Administration
- Draft, review, and finalize internal memos, grant agreements and amendments in coordination with program team.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all grant transactions and decisions.
- Help maintain the grant database and track key milestones and deliverables.
Financial Oversight and Budget Tracking
- Monitor grantee progress through regular communication, field visits and participation in training etc.
- Support grantees in developing technical capacity (for ex: financial management, best practices and reporting accuracy.
- Work with internal finance teams to track disbursements, reconciliations, and audits.
Reporting, Documentation & System Building
- Compile, review, and analyze grantee reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Assist in preparing internal and external reports
- Identify gaps in existing grant management systems and proactively develop processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for monitoring, evaluation, and learning purposes.
Grantee Relationship Management & Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for grantees, ensuring responsive, secure and effective communication.
- Provide/facilitate guidance and technical assistance to grantees as per need
- Convene and facilitate meetings to enhance collaboration and learning of grantees, internal teams, and stakeholders.
- Navigate and mediate challenges or conflict with a diplomatic, solution-oriented approach.
Assist the program director with any work that is assigned.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Development, Human Rights, Law, Public Administration or related disciplines).
- Minimum three to five years of experience in grant management, nonprofit finance, or donor-funded program administration.
- Strong knowledge of grant compliance, due diligence, and financial oversight.
- Experience working with human rights organizations or similar sectors is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple priorities, and drive processes without constant supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to convene and build systems that enhance efficiency.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to navigate sensitive issues and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, accessible language.
- Proficiency in financial tracking tools and presentation preparation.
