About the Organization
Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) supports policy implementation and enables the energy efficiency market with a not-forprofit motive. AEEE promotes energy efficiency as a resource and collaborates with industry and government to transform the market for energy-efficient products and services, thereby contributing toward meeting India’s goals on energy security, clean energy, and climate change. AEEE collaborates with diverse stakeholders such as policymakers, government officials, businesses and industries, consumers, researchers, and civil society organisations.
Job Description/Responsibilities
AEEE is looking for a self-motivated, positive and passionate individual with a problem-solving and growth mindset who will join our team to further enhance & empower our brand identity and recognition.
The individual will contribute to AEEE’s work on integrating climate mitigation and resilience considerations in the building sector. The role will focus on balancing these considerations with wider imperatives relevant to the Indian context.
- Collect, clean, and analyze geospatial, building, and infrastructure datasets using open-source maps and spatial analysis techniques to support urban assessments, data validation, and classification.
- Develop and support data-driven models to assess energy consumption, resource use, and urban growth, including calculation of key indicators related to energy efficiency, environmental impact, and sustainability.
- Analyze integrated datasets to extract actionable insights and create clear visual outputs through dashboards and visualizations using tools like Power BI and GIS software.
- Stay updated on policies, programs, and regulatory frameworks related to buildings, energy efficiency, and climate resilience in India, and map key factors such as think tanks, funders, and research organizations.
- Research opportunities to leverage government schemes and international best practices for promoting sustainable, resilient, and equitable building practices, especially in affordable housing.
- Identify and analyze climate vulnerabilities in urban housing, focusing on groups disproportionately affected by heat stress, and contribute to research that supports equitable climate outcomes.
- Draft and edit blogs, publications, and knowledge content, and contribute to events and communications that showcase AEEE’s work and insights.
- Engage with partners, research institutions, and community organizations to identify priority regions, design pilot projects, and organize stakeholder workshops and consultations across India.
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of AEEE’s building sector initiatives and project proposals.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Postgraduate degree in Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Urban/Regional Planning, Data Science, Environmental Science, Civil/Architectural Engineering, or a related quantitative field; a Ph.D. is a strong advantage.
- 0–8 years of relevant experience: 0–4 years for Research Associate, and 4–8 years for Senior Research Associate, with growing responsibility in geospatial analysis, data modeling, and urban sustainability.
- Experience in research, consulting, or government organizations is preferred, with exposure to applied urban research, stakeholder engagement, or project delivery.
- Strong understanding of urban growth patterns, including how cities expand spatially, infrastructure evolve, and land use changes over time.
- Proficiency in GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and Python for spatial and statistical analysis (using libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
- Experience with geospatial platforms and libraries like GeoPandas, or Google Earth Engine, and comfort with visualization tools like Power BI.
- Familiarity with India’s energy efficiency policies and building codes (e.g., ECBC, Eco-Niwas Samhita), and an understanding of sustainable building design, thermal comfort, and energy performance.
- Knowledge of remote sensing applications in urban studies, land use/land cover change, and environmental risk assessments is an added advantage.
