JOB PURPOSE:

WFP India is seeking an experienced private sector partnership (PSP) expert to mobilize resources for WFP’s Country Strategic Plan (CSP) from the private/corporate sector. The core of the work will be to strengthen existing corporate partnerships, and to expand/diversify the donor base to achieve the agreed annual funding targets. The successful candidate will bring a strong network to the role, advanced interpersonal skills and knowledge of India’s CSR landscape along with South South Triangular Cooperation Support.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive) 

Resource mobilization and private sector strategy – (annual target to be decided)

  • Proactively manage all aspects of the partnerships portfolio, including partner profiling, data/trends analysis, database maintenance and development, law updates, outreach planning, negotiating agreements, reporting and communication for donors - to maximize resources and leverage policy and technical support for WFP’s work.
  • Manage a small team of partnership associates and lead the implementation of a work plan in accordance with WFP’s partnership strategy. This includes supporting alignment of partner engagement across the organization.
  • Steward existing partnerships through careful relationship management and timely reporting for continued multi-year engagement. Also seek opportunities to expand and leverage these existing partnerships.
  • Lead outreach activities to attract new partners, guided by assessments, analysis and due diligence and present recommendations to senior management and ensure close follow-up.
  • Proactively highlight strategic opportunities and actions to senior management to generate interest and trust in WFP’s work for private/corporate sector engagement. Use socio-political insights to strengthen WFP’s positioning vis-à-vis domestic corporate sector and international institutions and contribute to the policy agenda.
  • Prepare well researched partnership proposals, strategic agreements, presentations and other briefing documents for the Country Director’s meetings/decisions, respecting corporate norms, processes and regulations. Ensure quality control of content by engaging with relevant WFP functional units.
  • Scan and scout the external corporate social responsibility (CSR) environment within the designated thematic areas for opportunities and risks and share partner intelligence (including forecasting) using WFP information systems.
  • Receive and screen inquiries from potential partners and be responsive, facilitating interactions with appropriate WFP staff. Coordinate with technical colleagues to prepare quality proposals and briefing materials in line with objectives and priorities.
  • Carefully consider the intersection between CSR and government engagement and seek opportunities for convergence. Solicit inputs from colleagues who contribute to inter-governmental work in the Country Office to ensure that WFP positions are properly explained and reflected in partnership proposals and agreements.
  • Develop creative and achievable plans for employee engagement with partners and implement these activities in collaboration with WFP colleagues in the country office and in the field. Assess the impact of employee engagement initiatives to share with partners and for learning purposes.
  • In the context of the UN system, support the development of partnerships to advocate for the SDGs and Zero Hunger and represent WFP in interagency forums where required.

Communications and visibility plan for donors

  • Drawing on analysis of the current environment and trends, prepare an annual communications and visibility strategy for PSP engagement that enhances WFP visibility with existing and prospective partners and ensures that donor visibility needs are met. Lead the PSP team to implement the plan in coordination with relevant colleagues in the country office.
  • Recommend approaches for messaging tailored to the different PSP audiences and engage with functional units on WFP’s thematic and India specific offerings. Help develop content for communications materials and that inform target decision makers. Support the preparation of strategic donor events and fulfil the visibility requirements of partners, in line with CSP objectives.

Manage WFP Trust for India

  • End-to-end management of the WFP Trust For India and its trustees; manage engagement plans with trustees and compliance legal and regulatory requirements for the Trust.

SSTC

  • Collaborate with all relevant Government partners such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, Ministry of External Affairs, NITI Aayog, Department of Food and Public Distribution and departments in the States for SSTC work.
  • Facilitate concrete SSTC activities such as study missions and learning workshops in collaboration with WFP’s technical units.
  • Contribute in establishing a systemic approach to the SSTC activities to the extent possible, to make the SSTC activities efficient and effective.
  • Manage the compilation of best practices and dissemination of these across the WFP network for cross learning.
  • Liaise with WFP HQ and Regional Bureau to contribute to the corporate SSTC policy and implementation plan.
  • Establish and maintain operational partnerships with the UN country team on joint SSTC work.
  • Manage and contribute to the creation of a Knowledge Hub for food and nutrition security/social protection.
  • Contribute to leverage and expand WFP’s partnerships with universities and think tanks for SSTC goals.
  • Manage operational research and evidence building through mapping and analysis e.g. of SSTC recipient countries in collaboration with key partners

Other Tasks

  • Manage supervisees, providing coaching, training and guidance to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
  • Take responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives in all areas of work to ensure equal participation of women and men.
  • Contribute to preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations and guidance; Monitor defined risks and advise on how to manage these effectively.
  • Other as required.

EDUCATION

  • Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, South-South Cooperation or international affairs, Communications or other relevant field or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • At least Three year of postgraduate professional work experience in policy design and Development Cooperation & South South Cooperation & private sector partnership roles, resource mobilization and public affairs.
  • Proven experience and expertise in engaging with government, private sector and multilateral/bilateral entities across the world especially in Asia and Africa and capacity to draft high quality policy documents
  • Experience in the United Nations system and knowledge of UN processes and regulations, particularly in the area of partnerships is desired.
  • Good understanding of corporate strategies and priorities and deep experience in developing multi-stakeholder partnerships.
  • Experience in pursing fundraising opportunities and developing proposals and solutions with prospective partners.
  • Long-term partner relationships and a robust professional network across geographies and sector.
  • Experience with managing resource mobilization processes and implementing fund raising strategies including negotiating contract terms and providing resourcing advice to senior colleagues.
  • Understanding partner priorities and focus areas and experience in creating unique value propositions for the partners that match their needs.
  • Experience with using technology and digital tools for data collection, analysis and data-based insights to add value to all partnerships.
  • Experience in managing teams with the skill to motivate team spirit and contribute to a gender-balanced and inclusive working environment.
  • Experience of working within the UN or any other multilateral organization.
  • Exposure to global donor platforms, global foundations and other philanthropic organizations.
  • International private sector exposure with global multinational conglomerates.
  • Diplomatic and persuasive with a natural interest in meeting new people and forging partnerships for the greater good.

LANGUAGE

Fluent oral and written communication skills in English. Working knowledge of Hindi is preferred.
