Duration of the Contract: 24 months (renewable based on performance review)

Karta has two flagship programs: Karta Access which guides the school-to-university transition of high school students and Karta Scholar, which guides the university-to-workplace transition of undergraduate scholars.
About the Role:
Karta Initiative India Foundation (KIIF) is seeking a passionate and committed individual to join as Program Associate – Youth Engagement and Mentorship to support Karta Scholars from Kashmir. This role focuses on mentoring, academic guidance, and career development for young students, while building meaningful relationships with families and communities.
The position is ideally suited for native Kashmiri speakers who can engage deeply with scholars, their parents and community members, while providing mentorship and exposure opportunities.
Key Responsibilities Areas:
- Provide one-on-one and group mentoring sessions to Karta scholars from Kashmir who are in secondary schools and undergraduate university programs.
- Facilitate sessions on English, career readiness and 21st-century skills.
- Support students in exploring diverse career opportunities, and mentor them on resume building, interview preparation, communication skills, and workplace readiness.
- Build trust-based relationships with students, parents, teachers and local community institutions, providing a safe space for dialogue.
- Support documentation, monitoring and reporting of program activities.
- Coordinate with internal teams for planning and smooth program delivery.
- Travel frequently to field locations across Jammu & Kashmir to mentor students and conduct workshops.
- Collaborate with local community-based organizations (CBOs), NGOs, and youth groups to build stronger networks of support for students.
- Undertake additional tasks as directed by the reporting line manager and senior management.
What we are looking for:
- Fluency in Kashmiri is mandatory with strong communication skills in English & Hindi.
- 0–2 years of mentoring experience is preferred.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant discipline (English, Mathematics, Education, Economics etc.)
- Should be able to teach one of the following: English, Mathematics, Economics, Business studies, STEM-related subjects, Life Sciences, etc. for 9th-12th grade students.
- Demonstrated ability to work with children and youth and a zeal to contribute to the education of underprivileged youth is strongly desirable.
- Strong values of compassion, integrity and resilience with exceptional people skills.
- Non-linear thinker, institution builder and action-oriented with a hands-on approach.
- Has the mindset and capacity to turn empathy into action.
- Ready to travel extensively to remote rural areas of minimum 70-80 days in a year with minimal supervision. Travel Reimbursement: All official travel expenses reimbursed as per KIIF policy.
- Having a long-term outlook and willing to commit a minimum 2 years to the organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving and presentation skills.
- Can go beyond the call of duty and put the cause before self.
Compensation Offered: Gross compensation budgeted for this position is attractive. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, no. of years and quality of experience.
Medical Insurance Benefits: Comprehensive medical insurance (Rs. 3 lakhs cover) for self, spouse and dependents, plus an accident policy (Rs. 5 lakhs cover).
