Job Responsibilities
. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned projects focusing on the delivery of a comprehensive portfolio on sustainable cooling and buildings in India o inputs to project conceptualization and design; preparation of draft programme work plans and budget; o researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources; o monitors and analyzes project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; o prepares coordination and steering committee meetings, supports timely reporting on project outputs, identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; o liaises with relevant parties and organises working groups of technical partners to ensure coordination and non-duplication of efforts; identifies and tracks follow-up actions; o assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies. o prepares various written outputs, including draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports, studies and inputs to publications. o provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations. o undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars; makes presentations on sustainable cooling and buildings. o participates in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries. o coordinates activities related to budget and funding (project preparation and submissions, progress reports), prepares and tracks related documents/reports (work programme, programme budget) and ensures clear organization of project documents and files; o collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. 2. Other duties as required to support the implementation of UNEP's Buildings and Cooling programs in India: o Contributes to implementing and strengthening UNEP's buildings and cooling portfolio in line with UNEP's Medium-Term Strategy 2022-2025 and related Programme of Work. o Participates and contributes to the Cool Coalition programme coordination meetings, supports Cool Coalition programme meetings, workshops, and activities. o Participates and contributes to the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GABC), programme coordination meetings, supports (GABC) programme meetings, workshops, and activities. o Contributes to the preparation of briefings, presentations and background papers on sustainable energy, buildings and construction and sustainable cooling. o Participates in peer review of publications o Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. o Ensures that requirements, background information used for data analysis are documented.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in energy policy, finance, engineering, environmental sciences, environmental law, architecture, urban planning, economics or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.
Work Experience
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the field of environment and/or development, with a focus on energy, environment policy and finance are required. Experience in project management providing capacity and investment support to national or local governments is required. Experience working with the United Nations or similar international organization is desirable. Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Experience working with government and subnational institutions in India on buildings, cooling, urban design, district energy, and/or sustainable urban energy policies is desirable. Experience working with the private sector/ or civil society is desirable.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable. NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of" fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and " Knowledge of equals a rating of' confident" in two of the four areas
