Job Description

Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy is looking for a dynamic, energetic Research Associate who will work with the Global & Local Action Team. The Research Associate will work on State-level policy analysis with the broader objective of supporting energy efficiency implementation at state and local levels through evidence-based, unbiased research and cutting-edge analytical approaches.

This role will focus on quantifying the economic and social co-benefits of energy efficiency, specifically assessing its impact on job creation and investment potential. The position will also be crucial in supporting the institutional strengthening of State Designated Agencies (SDAs) through evidence-based research, cutting-edge analytical approaches, and direct engagement.

The individual is expected to conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis and assessments through primary and secondary research that can encourage doubling energy efficiency across different sectors such as industries, buildings, transport, agriculture, etc and design strategies for its adoption. She/he would actively engage with a variety of stakeholders to advance the adoption of energy efficiency policies in states.

Job Responsibilities

  • Economic Impact Analysis: Conduct rigorous research and analysis to assess the impact of energy efficiency measures on job creation, economic growth, and investment opportunities at the state and national levels.
  • Adoption of Energy Efficiency interventions at national and sub-national Level: Actively support the institutional strengthening of State Designated Agencies (SDAs) by providing technical assistance, capacity building support, and developing frameworks for effective policy and program implementation.
  • Economic & Financial Modelling: Develop economic models and frameworks to conduct cost-benefit analyses, assess investment potential, and estimate the macroeconomic impacts of energy efficiency policies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interact with officials in SDAs across all states and Union Territories for AEEE programmes, including the State Energy Efficiency Index, data collection, workshops, and meetings.
  • Policy Research & Development: Support the preparation of policy briefs, scheme documents, and reports on existing and proposed energy efficiency programs in the states.
  • Data Analysis: Manage data collection from various sources and conduct both primary and secondary research. Applying intelligent data-processing techniques will be an integral part of all data-driven work.
  • Knowledge Products: Author high-quality research pieces, including white papers, presentations, policy briefs, and project reports that communicate findings to diverse audiences.
  • Other necessary tasks as they arise.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience in Policy Research/ Climate Action/ Government Consultancy/ Energy Efficiency Implementation.
  • A master’s degree with a specialization in energy, economics, public policy, finance or a related field or a bachelor’s degree in engineering, data science, or economics.
  • Should have a strong background in Policy Research/ Climate Action/ Government Consultancy, and Energy Efficiency Implementation.
  • Proven experience in dealing with various stakeholders, state government officials, public sector, subject matter experts
  • Quantitative skills and qualitative skills for policy analysis and development of policy frameworks
  • Working knowledge of Energy Efficiency/ Energy Management / Climate Action/ Climate financing in at least 1 demand sector and energy policies.

 Skillset expectations

  • Proven analytical and qualitative research abilities with excellent written and verbal communication, knowledge of any other regional languages is a plus.
  • Ability to identify technical and policy issues, interpret data, develop quantitative methods, and identify/ develop creative solutions
