About Karta Initiative India Foundation
Karta Initiative India Foundation is dedicated to expanding access to transformative educational and career opportunities for talented young people from disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds. We believe that when these young people are given pathways to thrive in higher education and careers, they can become leaders and changemakers who drive positive social change in their communities and beyond. Karta has two flagship programs: Karta Access which guides the school-to-university transition of high school students and Karta Scholar, which guides the university-to-workplace transition of undergraduate scholars.
About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic STEM Educator to design and deliver engaging learning experiences for high school students and undergraduate students from underrepresented communities. This role calls for STEM subject expertise across the spectrum, including pure sciences, mathematics, core engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, life sciences, climate sciences and interdisciplinary science subjects.
Beyond classroom delivery, the educator will play a critical role in mentoring Karta undergraduate scholars — guiding them through academic success, career exploration and career profile building (including internships, research opportunities and professional skills) in the sciences. By equipping Karta scholars with knowledge, confidence, and ethical perspectives, the educator will help empower marginalized youth to pursue global STEM opportunities and contribute positively to society.
Key Responsibilities Areas:
1. Curriculum Design & Delivery
- Develop and deliver interactive STEM-related lessons, workshops and projects for school students between 9th to 12th grade in Access Program as well as undergraduate students of science in Scholar Program, with a focus on integrating the application of AI in STEM subjects.
- Incorporate hands-on experiments, technology tools, simulations and inquiry-based learning approaches.
- While having domain expertise in any one STEM subject, be able to foster an interdisciplinary and socially conscious perspective among students, interconnecting various STEM concepts across pure sciences, mathematics, core engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, life sciences, climate sciences etc.
- Be a voracious reader who can channel their scientific curiosity to be able to teach students a wide range of concepts in STEM, and also to inspire them to utilize science and technology as tool to solve societal problems
- Career development in STEM, for both school students and scholars
2. Student Engagement & Mentorship
- Mentor high school and undergraduate Karta scholars, building problem-solving, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry skills.
- Provide career guidance and individualized mentorship to undergraduate scholars pursuing science and technology-related fields.
- Support scholars in career profile building (internships, research projects, resumes, LinkedIn, skill development, etc.).
3. Innovation & Program Development
- Introduce innovative teaching practices, including AI-enabled tools, digital platforms, and real-world STEM applications.
- Design interdisciplinary projects that bring together technology, life sciences, mathematics, and AI, with an emphasis on ethical and social implications.
- Adapt the curriculum according to diverse learning levels and contexts, ensuring inclusivity among the scholars.
4. Collaboration & Capacity Building
- Work closely with fellow educators, program team members, and external partners to co-create interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Train and support program team members as peer educators who can clear the doubts of students on fundamental science concepts.
5. Monitoring & Evaluation
- Track student and scholar progress, collect feedback and contribute to program impact assessment.
- Recommend improvements and innovations based on data and field experiences.
6. Additional Responsibilities
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, mental health lead, or senior management team to support the mission and goals of the organization.
- Be flexible to travel to program sites or events as needed, contributing to the on-ground impact of Karta’s programs.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in STEM, Life Sciences, or related fields. Candidates must have a PHD or be in the process of completing their PHD.
- Exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI), including its ethical dimensions and applications across engineering and scientific disciplines.
- 0–5 years of teaching, facilitation, or curriculum development experience in STEM subjects.
- Strong knowledge of interdisciplinary education systems, project-based as well as experiential learning.
- Familiarity with digital tools, online teaching platforms and emerging technologies in STEM and AI education.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and working with marginalized and underserved student communities.
