Job Description
MSC (MicroSave Consulting) is expanding its Climate Change & Sustainability practice and is seeking a Senior Manager – Climate Finance Risk Assessment and Modelling. This role offers an opportunity to lead and manage a diverse portfolio of climate finance and adaptation projects focused on risk assessment, financial modelling, and integrating quantitative and qualitative risk evaluation within adaptation and mitigation programs.
The Senior Manager will lead and manage a broad portfolio of climate finance and adaptation projects, encompassing climate risk assessment, financial modelling, and the integration of quantitative and qualitative risk evaluation in diverse adaptation and mitigation programs. This role will include assignments related to climate-smart agriculture finance, green MSMEs, disaster risk reduction, and capacity building for climate resilience in vulnerable communities. The Senior Manager will develop innovative climate finance solutions, support institutional strengthening of financial service providers, and guide strategic partnerships. The position combines technical leadership with business development, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge dissemination, enabling MicroSave Consulting to deliver high-impact climate adaptation and finance services responsive to evolving client and donor needs.
Job Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Technical Delivery
- Develop, deliver, and manage assignments pertaining to climate finance risk assessment, financial modelling, and stress testing of climate-related investments.
- Lead development and execution of quantitative and scenario analysis, incorporating probabilistic risk techniques, climate hazard modelling, and portfolio vulnerability assessment.
- Guide the design and structuring of financial instruments (e.g., guarantees, parametric insurance, green bonds) to de-risk climate adaptation and resilience investments.
- Produce high-quality analytical reports, presentations, and knowledge products that translate complex risk and modelling findings into actionable recommendations for clients.
- Oversee use of advanced data analytics tools (including GIS, statistical analysis software, and climate modelling platforms) and collaborate with field research teams for data collection.
Client Engagement & Business Development
- Build and sustain relationships with government agencies, multilateral and bilateral donors, financial institutions, and corporates to deliver and expand the practice’s project portfolio.
- Contribute to proposal writing, conceptualizing innovative financial mechanisms and risk-sharing structures for adaptation and resilience.
- Represent MSC at national and international conferences, working groups, and events
Capacity Development
- Mentor and support teams in quantitative analysis, climate finance modelling, and application of risk transfer products.
- Conduct trainings and technical assistance sessions for clients and partners in climate risk management methodologies.
- Support the development of toolkits, guidance notes, blogs, and sectoral publications in climate risk assessment and finance.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Postgraduate degree in Climate Finance, Economics, Data Science, Risk Management, Environmental Science, Applied Mathematics, or related discipline.
- Over 10 years of professional experience in climate finance, quantitative risk analysis, or financial modelling, gained through roles in consulting firms, think tanks, or financial institutions.
- A minimum of 5 years' hands-on experience working on climate finance or risk-related projects specifically in Africa.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing climate risk assessment frameworks, financial models, scenario analysis, and structuring innovative financial products to enhance climate adaptation and resilience.
- Proven proficiency in advanced statistical and climate data analysis tools, including programming languages and software such as R, Python, MATLAB, GIS, and specialized climate modeling platforms.
- Strong background in climate risk mapping covering both physical and transition risks, ESG integration, portfolio stress testing, and crafting risk transfer mechanisms tailored for MSMEs, agriculture sectors, and vulnerable communities.
- Familiarity with public-sector climate finance mechanisms, including budgeting, expenditure tracking, and pipeline development for adaptation and resilience projects.
- Excellent communication, technical writing, and presentation skills, with a track record of translating complex climate risk and financial modelling results into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating with governments, multilateral and bilateral donors, and financial institutions to design and implement financial instruments aimed at mitigating climate risks is preferred.
- Proven leadership in managing technical teams and mentoring junior staff in climate finance and risk modelling domains
