A highly effective public administration has the power to transform the lives of the most marginalised communities in rural India. Public Policy in Action allows for strengthening public service delivery to the last mile in complex, vulnerable, and resource-constrained geographies.

Praxis is the method towards actualisation and reformation. The unique approach involves drawing together academic insights, practical expertise and evidence to create a meaningful platform for continuous and dynamic interactions where research leads to practical implementation.

Similar to a medical residency, the core of the programme lies in the placement of learners within the district administration. This provides a unique leverage for the learner, who is able to exercise leadership while being co-located within public administration, with and without a position of authority.

About the Programme

The Public Policy in Action (PPIA) Praxis Residency Programme is a two-year opportunity that culminates in a *Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy Management*. The programme allows young leaders in India to study public policy and its implementation through a unique blend of classroom academic learning and field-based placements within public administration across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, the Border Territorial Region and New Delhi.

The full time programme provides young leaders with an immersive, academically rigorous experience led by globally renowned faculty, including social sector leaders, senior bureaucrats, and academicians. ‘Praxis Learners’ gain both theoretical insights and practical exposure at the cutting edge of India’s public administration, delving into public policy’s role in the evolving needs of the modern welfare state, and its transformative impact on the lives of the most marginalised citizens.

Need for Praxis: -

PPIA Praxis has been guided by key reflections that have surfaced during our work with the public systems, particularly in resource-constrained geographies. For the poorest and the most vulnerable, a good government has the potential to build a society based on intergenerational equity and justice. Effectively, the PPIA Praxis Residency Programme is not just an academic programme, but also our commitment to the most marginalised communities that rely on access to public services as routes out of poverty.

• HR Capacity Gap: Skilled and purpose-driven young professionals providing techno-managerial support and injecting fresh thinking and new ways of working with our public programmes.
• Lack of Contextualised Solutions: Moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach, building solutions that address intersectional vulnerabilities and complexities within public administrations, particularly in the context of the most marginalised communities.
• Lack of Access to Academic Tools and Perspectives: Strengthening systems and processes within public administration through the real-time application of academic frameworks and perspectives.
• Academia and Practice Divide: Integrating grassroots experiences into academic discourse promotes practical, nuanced, and reality-based knowledge in public policy.
