About the Organization

The GCCM aims to enable positive adaptation journeys for people and communities at the frontline of the climate crisis, whether they are staying, moving or decide to relocate.

The Global Centre for Climate Mobility is a unique partnership enabled by UN Member States and supported by relevant agencies of the UN system, the World Bank, and respective regional intergovernmental organizations to address climate-forced migration and displacement.

We advance our goals through four overarching strategies, acting as a knowledge builder, partnerships broker, and integrator across sectors, stakeholders, and levels of governance, as well as an accelerator in global & regional processes.

About the Fellowship

The Climate Mobility Fellowship (CMF) is a flagship initiative of the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM), designed to enable youth leaders with the knowledge, networks, and practical skills to drive climate mobility solutions.

Over the course of one year (June 2025 – May 2026), twelve fellows from Africa, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Pacific—including four from Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS)—will engage in an immersive, multi-faceted program that combines four pillars: formal learning, hands-on GCCM program engagement, policy exposure, and applied project experience.

By the end of the fellowship, fellows are expected to:

  • Develop expertise in climate mobility governance, policy, and research
  • Gain experience through engagement in GCCM programs
  • Expand their professional networks through global convenings
  • Lead an impact-driven project that advances climate mobility solutions

Fellows must be between 18-30 years old at the time of application. They will receive a stipend of $800 per month for 12 months. Travel and accommodation associated with fellowship-related training and events will be covered separately from the stipend.

Pillars of the fellowship:

  • Formal Learning through In-Residence & Virtual Remote Training

The Fellowship includes two structured training phases, designed to provide both academic rigor and practical skills:

  • In-Residence Program (16-27 June 2025) – A two-week, in person immersive training focused on knowledge-building and policy frameworks.
  • Virtual Remote Program (25 August-5 September 2025) – A two-week online training designed to strengthen skills in advocacy, communications, project development, and action planning. These learning experiences will ensure that fellows build expertise while gaining practical tools to implement solutions in their communities.
  • Hands-on Learning through GCCM Programs
  • Throughout the 12-month fellowship, fellows will be directly integrated into ongoing GCCM activities related to policy research, data analysis, regional programming, strategic communication and public advocacy. By working alongside GCCM experts, they will continuously develop practical skills that enhance their capacity and employability in the climate mobility space.
  • Participation in Global Policy Processes

The CMF provides youth leaders with access to major global convenings relevant to climate mobility. Concretely, fellows will engage in:

  • UN Oceans Conference and Berlin Climate Mobility Forum (June 2025)
  • UN High-Level Week and Climate Mobility Summit (September 2025)
  • COP30 (November 2025)

By participating in these key forums and taking part in expert panels and events, fellows will network with decision-makers, and gain insights into the policymaking landscape.

  • Climate Mobility Impact Project

Under the guidance of the Climate Mobility Academy team, fellows will design and implement a Climate Mobility Impact Project over the course of their 12-month fellowship, addressing a key climate mobility challenge—ideally in their community or region. Fellows may:

  • Contribute a new/innovative solution related to existing GCCM Practices (e.g., policy research, climate finance, youth engagement, communications)
  • Propose and develop a new initiative that advances climate mobility solutions

The projects will serve as practical case studies, allowing fellows to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts and drive tangible impact in their regions.
