About the Organization
Founded by Harvard University & Teach for India alumni, Slam Out Loud is a not- for-profit organisation that leverages arts-in-education and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Our mission is to transform the art period in school into a spacewhere children can find their voice through creative expression.
About the Fellowship
The Jijivisha Fellowship is a one-year, full-time paid work commitment, where fellows are placed as art educators directly in classrooms to build skills such as curiosity and imagination in children. They work closely with the school and community to create safe spaces of expression for children.
Since 2023 , our Cohort of 39 fellows have been placed across Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore, directly impacting 7800+ children.
In our fellows, we look for people dedicating their life to help every child to “unlock their potential & find their voice”
Where do our fellows teach
- You will be placed as a full-time, arts-based SEL facilitator in an affordable private school.
- You will be located in one of 4 cities: Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai or Pune. You
- will be teaching grades 5 to 9
- The medium of instruction will be English and/or a regional language (Hindi-
- Delhi & Mumbai, Marathi: Pune, Kannada: Bangalore)
Compensation & perks:
INR 3.6 lakhs per annum (INR 28,000 per month and an additional fixed reimbursement of INR 2,000 for travel/commute). Additionally, the program offers an all-expenses-paid induction, mid-program training.
You will also receive 300+ hours in training (observations, check-ins, virtual training, learning circles etc) on themes such as building excellence in the classroom, designing your own arts based community project from scratch and other topics relevant to your role as a Jijivisha fellow.
Eligibility
- Excellent facilitation/teaching skills to create an encouraging, safe and an inclusive environment for children to learn and create art
- Proficiency in English and one of the following regional languages based on the city you are applying for (Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, English)
- Meticulous and organised with a high degree of agency and accountability; someone who can plan their day well
- A strong belief in the power of arts as a medium to create safe and inclusive spaces for every child
- Exposure to a visual or a performance art form
- Deep understanding of socio-emotional learning (SEL) and/or child
- psychology either through an educational grounding or exposure through projects / work experience
- Great at building lasting relationships and sensitivity towards people’s emotions
- Graduate from any background. If you are an undergrad, you will need to show the coursework for your degree by June 2025.
- Here are some preferred qualifications we look for:
- Experience with any of the art forms (fine art, music, dance, theater, crafts, poetry, storytelling)
- Volunteering, facilitation or teaching experience in the space of arts and children’s education
- Education or work experience in psychology or well-being
