About the Organization

Prajnya is a Chennai-based non-profit that conducts research, engages in public education and supports building networks of individuals and organisations for change  towards peace, justice and human security.  Our two main areas of work are gender equality related issues and peace education.

About the Fellowship

The Rajaram Media Fellowship is intended to support research for a media project–feature or long-form articles, a special issue, a documentary or digital product–on SGBV. It will not cover production costs. The proposed project must be original and have a feasible research design. The applicant must have a concrete plan for publication of the research material.

Media Research fellows may be employees of a particular publication or platform or they may be freelancers. They should have a minimum of three years of reporting experience.

Eligibility

  • Minimum educational qualification: Undergraduate student at a recognised University.
  • The positions are also open to graduates not currently studying.
  • Interest in women’s rights and gender violence issues.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Continuous access to Internet and phone.

How to Apply

Applications will be accepted only via email (jobs.prajnya@gmail.com) and must be submitted by September 8, 2024. All application material must be in English, with the exception of writing samples, which can be in any language (including English).

Only complete applications will be considered, and they must include:

  • A cover letter of no more than one page (one side), stating why you are interested in this Fellowship; what you propose to research and why it is an important subject; and relating your experience to this position.
  • Your c.v., fully listing academic and professional experience, as well as any publications.
  • Two samples of your work (or links), relevant in subject matter or format to what you propose. Writing samples can be in any language.
  • A list of two references, including a brief statement of how they know you, their contact information. At least one should be from a fellow journalist with greater experience than the applicant.

A short project proposal (no more than 1000 words) which clearly answers the following questions:

  • What is the proposed project about?
  • What is the context for this project?
  • How will research for this project be carried out?
  • What is the proposed timeline for this project?
  • What will be the product of this project and where will it appear?
  • What is the relevance of this project to the analysis of gender violence?
