About the Organization

We are an international organization working as a solutions broker to accelerate action and support for adaptation solutions, from the international to the local, in partnership with the public and private sector, to ensure we learn from each other and work together for a climate resilient future.

Founded in 2018, our global office is hosted by the Netherlands in Rotterdam, with regional offices in Africa, South Asia and Asia Pacific and a knowledge and research hub based in Groningen. Through our evolving network of offices, we engage in innovative solutions to drive adaptation at scale, high-level policy development, new research contributions, advocacy, communications, and work with our partners to deliver action on the ground.

About the Award

Launched by GCA in 2022, the Local Adaptation Champions Award spotlight and reward innovative, exemplary, inspiring, and scalable locally led efforts that address the impacts of climate change and build effective climate resilience among the most vulnerable communities, sections of society, and individuals who are at the frontlines of the greatest existential threat faced by humankind.

All 20 nominees will benefit from media coverage around their nomination for the awards. Four winners (one per category) will receive a cash prize of €15,000.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the award, applicants must ensure that:

• The solution addresses climate change impacts or builds effective climate resilience.
• The solution aims at the most vulnerable communities, sections of society and individuals experiencing climate impacts (shocks and slow-onset).
• The entry matches the description of one of the four award categories.
• The intervention presented is under implementation and shows results and impact.

Deadline

The call for applications will be open from 10th June to 10th July 2022.
