About the Organization

The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization working to accelerate action on adapting to climate change. We support adaptation solutions at the international and the local levels,  partnering with the public and the private sector.

Founded in 2018, our global headquarters is hosted by the Netherlands in the largest floating office in the world in Rotterdam. We have regional offices in Africa, South Asia and Asia Pacific, and a knowledge and research hub in Groningen, the Netherlands.

Our work spans high-level policy development, research, advocacy and communication for faster and deeper climate adaptation. We work closely with partners to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of results where they are most needed.

About the Event

The Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day, organized by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) on the 12th of October 2024, is the largest-running annual youth adaptation event taking place in over 100 countries around the world. This day is dedicated to mobilizing, showcasing, and celebrating the potential of young people to innovate and accelerate climate adaptation solutions. Youth across the world are invited to participate in this day of climate adaptation celebration.

The Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day will:

• Build the youth adaptation movement with schools, universities, and youth organizations.
• Raise awareness and increase the knowledge of young people on climate adaptation.
• Drive knowledge sharing for youth-led adaptation actions in Africa and around the world.

There are many ways to participate in the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day.

Youth Climate Adaptation Lighthouse Events:

Organize a Youth Climate Adaptation Lighthouse Event to share the innovative ideas you have for adapting to climate change with those around you. The events are organized by youth, for youth, and focuses on how young people can play a big role in helping communities around the world adapt to climate change. Whether you are a school, university, youth-led organization or simply an individual, this guide will help you succeed on the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day.

Shape your Lighthouse Event to fit your vision. Whether you’d like to plan a vibrant community workshop, a thought-provoking guest lecture, or a lively and informative dinner with friends, the possibilities are endless. Find out more in the Action Guide.

Register your Event

After you’ve successfully planned your Lighthouse Event, it’s time to shine a spotlight on your efforts and get your event on the map! Register your event on our portal by 30th September to amplify the impact of your Lighthouse Event and inspire others to join the global youth adaptation movement.

My Climate Adaptation Solution Video Competition:

Are you between 18-35 years old and leading the fight against climate change? Have you developed an innovative and creative adaptation solution? Share your adaptation solution with the world by entering your one-minute video in the My Climate Adaptation Solution Video Competition. The competition closes on the 26th of September 2024.

The winners will be announced on 11th October 2024 by the CEO of the Global Center on Adaptation. Public voting opens on the 30th of September and closes on the 7th of October.

To enter, submit your video to the Google Drive using the following steps:

• Name your Submission: The video should be titled: Participant’s name_Title
• Access your Google Drive.
• Upload the Video File: Locate the ‘New’ button on the left side of the Google Drive. Select ‘file upload’ and click the video file you want to select.
• Monitor the Upload: Wait for the file to appear on the Google Drive.
• Share the Video: Open the video file, click the three dots to the right and select ‘Share’. Copy the link and ensure that the access level is set to ‘Viewer’.

Social Media Campaign:

Make some noise on social media and raise awareness about climate adaptation on the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day by sharing campaign content from our Trello board. Use our templates to let the world know that you are part of the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day. Don’t forget to use #Youth4AdaptationActionDay
