About the Organization

Swiss Emmaus India started its work in India in 1960 and initially worked to eliminate leprosy as a public health problem. For the last 64 years, SEI India has dedicated itself to improve the lives of people affected by leprosy and other poverty related diseases. From supporting tertiary care leprosy services along with field-based services, SEI India has come a long way in ensuring that fair health services are available to the marginalized communities in India. It believes that poor health and poverty share a symbiotic relationship that relies on a robust public health system to provide fair access to healthcare services for preventable diseases.

Swiss Emmaus India works mainly in collaboration with the Central and State Government in the Leprosy Control Program, WHO, Global Partnership for Zero leprosy, ILEP and in partnership with local NGOs. Swiss Emmaus India has its presence in 8 states namely Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Chandigarh, supporting a tertiary care hospital along with carrying out a research study in Migration and leprosy in India.  Swiss Emmaus India also implemented 3 community-based programs (Two in Andhra Pradesh and one in Maharashtra state) and is currently implementing one in Chhattisgarh state.

About the Proposal

Swiss Emmaus India is an Indian development organization with its origin and close association to FAIRMED Switzerland. It is a non-profit development organization that works with a mandate of ‘health for the poorest’ and has a special focus on the elimination of leprosy in India.

These activities are carried out with support from both international and local supporters who are keen to impact and change the lives of people affected by leprosy. As India is leprosy endemic, SEI reaches out to and appeals to a significant number of Indians to support their fellow citizens to improve their quality of life.

In this regard, a Health Education & Awareness Unit (HEAU) was established in 2008, to raise awareness and appeal to other likeminded Indians to support the cause of leprosy elimination. In the last 15 years, the HEAU unit has taken major strides to raise awareness and appeal to its constituent members via a host of fundraising channels. These include direct fundraising channels such as tele-calling, events, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and direct mailing.

The HEAU unit was first established in Chennai and over the years has expanded to include 2 additional cities namely Mumbai and Bangalore with 75 colleagues engaged in creating public awareness. SEI is keen to expand further and to review its awareness raising activities so that Indians are well aware about leprosy and equally participate in making India leprosy free.

In order to meet its goal, SEI is keen to engage an individual/agency who can scan the external environment, can analyse and study the fundraising market in India in general and more specifically in selected states/regions in India, where SEI is already active, as well as new areas with fundraising potential (“Hotspots” with high purchasing power, high level of education, high GDP, etc.- tbd in consultation with the consultant) with the specific elements as described in the objectives below.

Goal
