About the Organization

SBI Foundation (SBIF) is the CSR arm of State Bank Group. The focus areas of SBIF are Livelihoods & Entrepreneurship, Education, Environment, Sports, Rural Development, Healthcare, Disability & Inclusion and Women Empowerment. So far, SBIF has impacted the lives of more than a 20 million beneficiaries through its various CSR initiatives and aims to continue improving the socio-economic well-being of the society, particularly of the less fortunate and under-privileged members and enable them to live up to the potential that they all possess.

SBI Foundation’s work through its flagship program, SBIF CONSERW – ‘Conservation Through Sustainable Engagements, Restoration and Wildlife Protection’, is geared towards achieving the UN SDG 6 ‘’Clean Water and Sanitation”, SDG 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy”, SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, SDG 13 “Climate Action”, SDG 14 “Life Below Water” and SDG 15 “Life on Land”.

The SBIF CONSERW program works primarily in the following 4 themes:

  • Sustainable Waste Management.
  • Wildlife Protection
  • Renewable Energy
  • Restoration and Conservation of Ecosystems

About the Proposal

The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to invite potential grantees with a proven track record to implement projects in the thematic area of wildlife conservation for a period of 2-3 years starting from the remaining months of the current financial year i.e. 2024-25 and the next financial year i.e. 2025-26.

SBI Foundation hereby invites proposals seeking funding under SBIF CONSERW: for wildlife conservation in India. The budget for a proposal should be in the range of Rs.1.00 Cr to Rs. 5.00 Cr. for a support period ranging from 2 to 3 years. Multiple submissions will be disqualified. (For project proposals between 50 Lakhs to Rs. 1.00 Cr, the cumulative CSR revenue of the organization for the last 3 financial years (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023- 24), should be a minimum of Rs. 2.00 Cr and, For project proposals above Rs. 1.00 Cr, the cumulative CSR revenue of the organization for the last 3 financial years (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24), should be a minimum of Rs. 5.00 Cr).

Scope of Work

The proposed project under SBIF CONSERW should be in the thematic area of Wildlife Conservation in India and align with the below mentioned sub-thematic areas and framework

Thematic Area: Wildlife Conservation

Sub-thematic Areas: (Project proposal may include one or more of the respective sub-thematic areas.)

  • Species Conservation:
  • Conservation project proposals are expected for the species of importance under endangered or threatened categories as mentioned in the Red List prepared by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and species specifically mentioned in the India’s Wildlife Action Plan and The Wildlife (Protection)Act, 1972.
  • Conservation proposals for the following species along with its ecosystem/landscape will be given priority: a) Asiatic Elephant b) Red Panda c) Vultures of India d) Bengal Tiger e) Snow Leopard f) Hoolock Gibbon g) Greater One-horned Rhino h) Great Indian Bustard i) Gangetic Dolphin j) Saltwater Crocodile (In Andaman & Nicobar Islands).
  • Infrastructural Support: Need based infrastructure support for conservation activities including equipment for handholding field teams and front line personnels of the Department of Forests and Wildlife.

Potential infrastructural support includes

  • Patrolling vehicles, Field kits, First aid kits, Metal detectors, LED torches, GPS, Walkie talkies, Camera traps, Radio Collars, Bioacoustics monitoring devices etc.
  • Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation: Potential support areas would be species-specific region-specific science based comprehensive mitigation measures.

Preferred Project Locations : Priority shall be given to following biogeographic zones of India ▫ Trans-Himalayan Zone ▫ Himalayan Zone ▫ Western Ghat Zone ▫ North-East Zone ▫ Coastal Zone ▫ Island Zone.

Framework: The following framework needs to be followed while preparing the project implementation plan.

  • Baseline / study – The proposal needs to mention the baseline data for the proposed project with essential data that helps set realistic project goals, monitor progress, and evaluate the overall impact of conservation efforts.
  • Identification and finalization of proposed project location - The location for the intervention should be specifically mentioned in the proposal.
  • Government approvals – Necessary approvals must be obtained from government and local authorities for conservation activities.
  • Tangible outcomes – The proposal quantifiable goals and measurable impacts of action.
  • Research and Outreach – Research, community engagement, outreach and capacity building shall be included as a component of the proposal as it provides for comprehensive and sustainable conservation initiative.

Eligibility

  • The Agency should be a non-profit organization/trust/society registered in India.

The NGOs applying in the RFP should have:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in successfully implementing CSR projects in the thematic area of wildlife conservation.
  • A dedicated team for conservation projects, comprising of environmentalists, ecologists, biologists, etc.
  • Expertise in the specific wildlife species and ecosystems relevant to the project, including knowledge of local flora and fauna, and threats to biodiversity
  • A strong presence in the proposed landscape,
  • Established relationships and good rapport with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Any Sub-letting, sub-contracting and/or outsourcing of the activities shall not be allowed. Documents to be submitted: Copies of previous project completion and work experience details.
