In more than 60 countries, primarily in Asia and Africa, Nutrition International nourishes people to nourish life. In Asia, Nutrition International’s work pans across its core intervention countries of Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan and Philippines. Nutrition International works with governments of these countries to implement proven nutrition interventions that can improve health and nutrition outcomes of newborns, children, women, girls and general population. The key interventions of Nutrition International are carried out in the areas of micronutrients supplementation, food fortification, women and girl’s nutrition, maternal and newborn health, salt iodization, infant and young child nutrition, and evidence generation and policy.

About the Proposal

To increase the profile of and investment for nutrition globally and particularly in Asia, Nutrition International continues to position nutrition as a foundational factor to achieving the broad goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our funding comes from a range of sources – from governments to foundations, the private sector to multilateral agencies. Supported by the Government of Canada and other generous donors, we often seek additional funding to support new interventions which can yield positive outcomes for vulnerable communities. In this effort, we develop pitch notes for raising funds for new interventions in our core countries.

 Through this terms of reference, Nutrition International seeks to hire an individual (henceforth referred to as copywriter) to develop idea pitch notes to raise funds for new or improved interventions directed towards reducing malnutrition among vulnerable communities in the core countries of Nutrition International. These idea pitch notes will be developed on pre-approved designed word templates of Nutrition International and will follow a preapproved structure that will be provided by Nutrition International. However, each idea pitch notes will need to be customized for business development in each country. In total Nutrition International seeks to develop 20-30 idea pitch notes.

Scope of Work

The copywriter will be responsible for end-to-end drafting and editing of the idea pitch notes which will include the following tasks.

  • Thorough reading of documents and reference literature provided by Nutrition International which could include reference reports, assessments, baseline studies, policy briefs, etc., to build context and background of the content to be included in the idea pitch notes.
  • Undertake any additional secondary research, if required, beyond the provided documents to strengthen the quality of the pieces being drafted.
  • Drafting and originally writing each idea pitch note commissioned by Nutrition International. Plagiarism is absolutely not accepted.
  • Connecting with Nutrition International’s staff (online) to seek any background information or clarity on any queries, if required.
  • Incorporate feedback from Nutrition International and finalize the idea pitch notes.
  • All idea pitch notes will be copyrights of Nutrition International. The name of the writer will not appear anywhere in the document.
  • Nutrition International will hold the rights and discretion to design, edit and disseminate the finalized idea pitch notes after the assignment is over.
  • If required, Nutrition International holds the right to translate the document to any other language, without informing the copywriter. The quality of the translated document will not be within the scope of the copywriter.

Deliverables

 20-30 idea pitch notes, as commissioned by Nutrition International, developed across a period of 90 days capturing a compelling narrative about the key idea being pitched for fund raising.

Eligibility

For this assignment, Nutrition International is seeking a candidate with strong writing skills and strong strategic communications knowledge. The ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment is a critical requirement. As this position works closely with colleagues around the world, early morning or late evening meetings may be occasionally required.

Specific education and profession experience that Nutrition International seeks are-

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, journalism or similar
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, fundraising, donor engagement, writing, storytelling, marketing or related job (prior experience in the not-for-profit or international development sector an asset)
  • Excellent research, writing and editing skills
  • Strong experience in fundraising and proposal writing

During this assignment, Nutrition International will support the copywriter with:

  • Basic guidelines about the organizational style of writing
  • Reports, policy briefs, assessment studies, and other documents detailing the context, program details and any other relevant information needed to develop the idea pitch notes
  • Designed word template for developing each note
  • Template capturing the structure that the idea notes should follow
  • A sample of a past similar document for reference
  • Connections to relevant team members to seek clarity about each idea pitch note
  • Any additional reports/surveys/information required by the writer and if available with Nutrition International
  • Answering any queries of the writer that may emerge during the content development process
  • Feedback to the draft idea pitch notes and support in finalizing them
