PURPOSE of hiring A Consultant

About Room to Read:

Room to Read is a global organization transforming the lives of millions of children in low-income countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, our innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools in low-income countries during two time periods which are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education. We work in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations, and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and ensure girls can complete secondary schools with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions. Room to Read has benefited 16.8 million children across 38,000 communities in Asia and Africa.

About the Assignment:

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will have editorial support as well as general administrative duties related to the work and activities of RtR’s children’s book publishing team – Quality Reading Materials (QRM)

Editorial support

• Vendor management for print projects
• Coordinating documents with translations and proofreading marks
• Supporting with editorial tasks for print and digital books
• Supporting with creation of documents such as concept notes, invitations, feedback, reports

General administrative duties

• Raising PRs with distribution sheets
• Creating contracts with appropriate ToRs and SoWs
• Helping generate invoices for various tasks and processing with all required paperwork
• Handling hard copies of contracts, invoices and illustrations for records
• Updating data related to books on the online database - GSD
• Coordinating with the warehouse for books and distribution
• Assisting the QRM team with filing documents, minutes taking
• Assisting the team with event-related activities such as coordination regarding supplies required, shipping boxes of books, preparing workshop material, etc.
• Support other/ad hoc activities as seen relevant and needed.

Minimum qualifications

Degree(s)/courses in editing or publishing, language, literature, education, communications, or other similar subjects; 0-1 years in an editorial team

Contract Duration: This contract will be valid for six months after joining.

Payment Terms: 100% payment every month

Please note that all payments will be made only after submission of the correct invoice in hard copy.

TECHNICAL EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR THE CONSULTANT

The individual will be evaluated based on a total score of 20 points across the given parameters. Each parameter will contribute 10 points.

The CV/technical proposal will be assessed based on the following criteria:

1. Background and interest in editing or publishing, language, literature, education, communications, or other similar subjects
2. Writing and other communication skills; ability to present information efficiently

• Financial Proposal will be asked later upon successful completion of the technical round.
  • Only Shortlisted Candidates will be contacted and might be called for a face-to-face interaction with the panel.
  • Any incomplete application or process deviation, the proposals will automatically be rejected.
  • A CV/Resume received after the prescribed deadline will not be considered.
  • Selected Candidate will be required to sign and abide by the Child Protection policy of Room to Read.
