The Gupta-Klinsky India Institute (GKII) at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) was established in 2020 as a multidisciplinary platformdedicated to partnering with India to deepen the understanding of critical issues and challenges facing India and their larger global implications. Its mission: mobilizing Johns Hopkins faculty, staff, students, and alumni to work with partners in India to improve society through research, education, policy, and practice. GKII draws on JHU’s global reputation as a leading research university and represents all parts of the University, including all its academic divisions, professional schools, and affiliated laboratories.
The Gupta-Klinsky India Institute at Johns Hopkins University pursues its mission in three strategic directions:

Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and versatile Communications Consultant to lead communication efforts across multiple high-impact India-focused programs, including the Women in STEMM Fellowship Initiative, Palliative Care program, and the TB Free Schools Initiative. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in program communications, content creation, and advocacy, with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences. This role requires strategic thinking, creativity, and hands-on experience in managing communications for social impact initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
Content Creation and Communication
- Collaborate with the GKII comms team to create compelling content for newsletters, social media, donor reports, program updates, and other communication channels.
- Write and edit long-form materials such as program reports, case studies, success stories, and opinion pieces.
- Create and manage content for program websites (in collaboration with web developers).
Program Asset Development
- Design and produce high-quality program assets, including reports, social media creatives, infographics, and other promotional materials using tools like InDesign, Canva, or similar design software.
- Maintain consistency in branding and messaging across programs.
Strategy and Campaign Management
- Develop and implement communication strategies to promote programs and key initiatives.
- Build advocacy campaigns focusing on themes like gender equity, palliative care, and community health.
- Collaborate with program teams to document achievements and milestones effectively.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with external vendors for website development, graphic design, and other production needs.
- Manage communication with program stakeholders, including fellows, donors, and community partners.
Event Conceptualization and Promotion
- Support the conceptualization, planning, and promotion of program-related events and campaigns.
- Create promotional materials and content to drive engagement and participation.
Documentation and Reporting
- Document program progress and outcomes, creating detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain organized records of communication materials and feedback from stakeholders.
Education Qualifications/Required Skills & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, Public Health, or related fields.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in program communications, advocacy, or related roles.
Essential Skills
- Exceptional content writing and editing skills, including long-form and short-form content creation.
- Proficiency in social media strategy, campaign management, and content creation.
- Experience in website content development and managing vendors for website updates.
- Strong design skills with tools like InDesign, Canva, or similar software.
- Ability to create advocacy materials aligned with program goals, such as gender equity, health, and education.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in gender-focused programs, palliative care, or public health initiatives.
- Background in advocacy campaigns, particularly around women’s representation, education, or healthcare equity.
- Familiarity with managing communications for multiple programs simultaneously.
Soft Skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
