About the Organization

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

Job Responsibilities

• Community based fieldwork and data collection using interviews
• Transcribe and translate interviews (Hindi or Marathi to English)
• Assist in basic level thematic analysis, writing and report generation
• Work closely with the GEMMS team to ensure efficient and accurate data collection, analysis and documentation

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• Master’s degree in Public Health, Development Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, or any Social Sciences from a UGC- recognized university
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in research projects related to migration, health, mental health, and gender-based violence
• Experience in primary qualitative data collection and qualitative analysis. Previous experience in qualitative research, transcription, and translation is preferred.
• Proficiency in writing and communication skills in English, Hindi and Marathi
• Proficiency in Word processing tools like MS-Word or Google Docs
• Familiarity with qualitative data analysis tools (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti) will be preferred
• Willingness to travel and collect data in community settings

Salary

40,000-45,000 (based on experience)
