Location: Kangra and Chamba
Employment Type: Full-time (probably until November 2027)
Job Summary: We are looking for a dedicated Community Worker to join our Mobile Service Team, providing direct assistance to rural communities in India. This role involves traveling to villages, listening to community concerns, and helping individuals navigate everyday challenges related to health, education, livelihood, government schemes, and social welfare. The ideal candidate is compassionate, resourceful, and passionate about community service with a strong commitment to gender and social justice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Outreach: Travel with the mobile service team to different villages, build trust, and understand the specific needs of individuals and families.
- Information & Assistance: Provide guidance on government schemes, healthcare options, education opportunities, and other social welfare programs.
- Case Management: Assist individuals in filling out forms, gathering necessary documents, and liaising with relevant authorities to resolve issues.
- Awareness & Education: Conduct small group sessions or one-on-one discussions on topics such as financial literacy, digital access, healthcare, women’s rights, and child welfare.
- Coordination & Networking: Work with local authorities, NGOs, healthcare providers, and legal aid organizations to ensure effective service delivery.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain records of community interactions, issues addressed, and referrals made to track impact and improve services.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Rural Development, Sociology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 1-3 years in community work, social services, or grassroots activism (experience in rural settings preferred).
- Language: Proficiency in local languages and dialects is highly desirable. English would be appreciated.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, empathy, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
- Adaptability: Willingness to travel extensively and work in diverse rural environments.
- Tech-Savvy: Basic digital skills for using smartphones, online forms, and messaging apps.
Reporting & Supervision
- Reports to: Program Coordinator
- Supervises: Field facilitators, volunteers, and community-based partners.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with frequent travel to various rural villages in the districts of Kangra and Chamba. Fieldwork may involve working in challenging and low-resource environments.
- Remuneration: JAGORI RURAL CHARITABLE TRUST applies a salary scheme to all its programs. Salary will be commensurate with the responsibility of the position and the experience of the candidate.
