Job Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyse spatial and temporal data on Bengaluru’s urban hydrology, including rainfall patterns, drainage networks, and land use and land cover, using publicly available data, such as IMD, CWC, and other gridded datasets.
  • Develop, calibrate, and validate urban-flood models using SWMM, HEC-RAS, or GIS-based hydrological tools.
  • Examine historical flood events, assess their impact on urban communities and ecosystems, and simulate flood scenarios under various climate change projections (e.g., RCP scenarios) to assess future flood risks.
  • Document methodologies, findings, and insights (including data analysis, model outcomes, and actionable recommendations for flood risk mitigation) in a comprehensive report.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • A master’s degree student in climate science, hydrology, environmental engineering, urban planning, or related fields.
  • Experience in hydrological models and GIS mapping.

Skill Set

  • Hands-on experience in hydrological and flood-modelling tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, MIKE FLOOD)
  • Familiarity with different climate-data sets and climate-data analysis.
  • Well-versed in GIS-based spatial analysis (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Knowledge of Python/R for hydrological modelling.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
