Dakshin Foundation is a not-for-profit, charitable, non-governmental organisation committed to environmental sustainability and social justice.
Our mission is to inform and advocate for conservation and natural resource management, while promoting and supporting sustainable livelihoods, social development and environmental justice. We adopt interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary approaches in our research and interventions, drawing from the fields of ecology, conservation biology, sociology, economics, and law. By strengthening networks at local and national levels and supporting advocacy campaigns, we work to build grassroots’ capacities to secure ecosystems and rights and engage in conservation and environmental decision-making. Our goal is to promote ecologically and socially appropriate approaches to conservation and natural resource management in coastal, marine and mountain ecosystems in India.
Job Description
We are looking for a candidate to assist the programme leads in the planning and execution of ‘Coastal Food Futures: Enabling transitions for sustainable fisheries in India’. The project will develop collaborative pathways to bolster the nutritional security of fish-dependent coastal communities by enabling transformation in the capture fisheries and the fishmeal and fish oil sector in India. It will be facilitated by action research and multi-stakeholder dialogues. We aim to use an inclusive approach, to establish and operationalise a coalition that creates space for diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, fisher organisations, and market actors. The outcomes of this project will contribute towards improving ocean health and supporting the well-being of coastal communities by enhancing access to affordable nutrition.
The Project Coordinator will be expected to support the overall administration and coordination of the project. Specifically, the project coordinator is expected to:
- Work with the programme leads to develop concrete work plans, timelines, and tracking mechanisms.
- Assist in setting up a coalition for the project and coordinating the coalition's activities according to project goals and long-term vision.
- Support the preparation and submission of grant reports in compliance with donor requirements.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures to ensure efficient utilisation of funds as per statutory requirements.
- Tracking the implementation based on set M&E protocols.
- Coordination amongst the team members (including programmatic and inter-programmatic).
- Build new partnerships and coordinate amongst project stakeholders in consultation with programme staff.
- Assist in organising workshops, training sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- A degree in natural resource management, conservation, fisheries, social sciences, or related fields
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in project coordination, grant management, or related roles.
- Strong proficiency in English (spoken and written) is essential. Additional proficiency in local languages spoken along the coast is preferred.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Experience in data management and interdisciplinary study/intervention design.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in G Suite, MS Office and other project management tools.
