We work closely with governments, non-profits, think tanks, media houses, universities, and other actors; to grow their data and tech capacity to enable data-driven decision-making at scale.

Job Description

We are looking for a Project Lead - Consultant to lead data-driven projects for the public good. This would include working closely with different external stakeholders like government officers, funders, domain experts and more, as well as an internal multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality and timely deliverables. This position is a consultant role for 2 years (with possible extension) and will be based out of Himachal Pradesh - Dharamshala [Frequent travels between Dharamshala & within Himachal Pradesh will be required based on Project requirements]

We are looking for someone with a keen interest in the Data for Good and Digital Public Good  & Infrastructure ecosystem, with experience in project management. The position would require traveling within Himachal Pradesh specifically in Dharamshala and Shimla as well as occasional travels to other parts of the country. Someone with experience working with a multidisciplinary team to manage the broad ends of stakeholder management, ensuring strategic alignment with the organisation’s vision in the leadership team and people management including but not limited to internal communication, code of conduct, adherence to organizational policies, etc. at CivicDataLab.

Job Responsibilities

Project Planning & Strategy:

  • Lead research needs assessments, and feasibility studies to identify and prioritize project interventions.
  • Understanding the data for a good approach and aligning it with the project needs.
  • Develop and implement project plans, objectives, and timelines in alignment with initiative goals and project requirements.
  • Design strategies tailored to the local context in Himachal Pradesh, considering the local stakeholders and aligning them with the needs of the project

Project Implementation:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and activities of the project, ensuring timely and effective execution.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, government department stakeholders, Internal project teams and initiative leads
  • Keep track of project activities and maintain a field tracker highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations for improvement which can be shared externally and internally to ensure a smooth execution
  • Document success stories, best practices, and lessons learned for dissemination.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities, ensuring that objectives and targets are being met.
  • Capturing impact metrics for the project and domains

Stakeholder Management:

  • Build strong relationships with government agencies, civil societies, academia and other stakeholders.
  • Document stakeholder's interest and their position of engagement for internal teams
  • Act as the primary point of contact ensuring alignment with local regulations and policies.
  • Regularly update and report to the on-ground field stakeholders, and internal team on the project’s progress and outcomes.
  • Engage local communities, ensuring their participation and ownership of project activities.
  • Organize data-driven capacity-building initiatives to ensure the sustainability of the project's outcomes.
  • Facilitate community meetings, workshops, and training as needed.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in project management, preferably in the social impact sector/ development sector
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the local context of Himachal Pradesh, background in the data/technology sector
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage on-field and remote teams.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to think critically and solve problems effectively.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Hindi and English. Knowledge of local dialects in Himachal Pradesh is an asset.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel frequently primarily between Dharamshala and Shimla and on a needs basis to other parts of the country

Required Skills

  • Understanding of basic research processes and software development lifecycle
  • Understanding of basic data management practices
  • Ability to switch between different contexts and domains
  • Experience working and coordinating between multidisciplinary teams
