Project Officer– Ecological Restoration (Darjeeling Field Office)

About the Organization
WWF-India, one of the country’s largest conservation organizations, invites applications for enthusiastic candidates with experience of working in Ecological restoration, natural resource management and planning and implementation of restoration projects, monitoring and studying the impact of restoration on biodiversity. Experience on plant taxonomy or botany, with field experience on plant identification, is highly desirable.
Job Description
The recruit will work closely with the Landscape Coordinator, KCL-Darjeeling and the Team Leader, KCL to:
Programme Implementation and Technical Support
- Lead and supervise the implementation of reforestation and nursery initiatives.
- Design and conduct relevant studies/ assessments and use the information to strategize future work.
- Monitor and study the impact of restoration and ecological services.
- Work closely with Landscape Coordinator and the KCL team to identify restoration sites and project implementation.
- Prepare reports and carry out other relevant documentation.
- Assist in proposal development, project management including formulation of workplans, reporting, work on budget and finance and delivery of agreed targets.
Networking, Coordination and Communication
- Regularly interact with the Forest Dept., District Administration, Panchayats, village, Tea Garden Management or community groups and other stakeholders for implementing project activities and updating them on progress as and when required.
- Liaise with partners and stakeholders for planning of activities and sharing of information.
- Plan and conduct awareness raising programs, training and campaigns.
Reporting:
- Provide monthly updates to the Team Leader – KCL through the Landscape Coordinator – KCL Darjeeling, on the progress of the assigned work or a pre-designed work-plan.
- Assist in preparation of quarterly technical reports, annual reports, publications and other communication material.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s Degree, preferably Botany/Forestry/Agroforestry or a related field
- Candidate who has been working or has field experience on Himalayan flora/fauna, knowledge in plant taxonomy, their identification, reforestation, silviculture, project planning, natural resource management, basic knowledge of GIS, data entry and analysis.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience of working in Sikkim-Darjeeling Himalaya.
- Good knowledge of Nepali & Hindi is desirable.
