Regional Director (Kolkata/Ahmedabad/Guwahati) – Forest-PLUS 3.0, New Delhi, India
Tetra Tech International Development Services (http://www.tetratech.com/intdev) headquartered in Burlington, VA is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Regional Director for the Forest-PLUS 3.0 program. The positions will be located in the Forest-PLUS 3.0 regional offices in Kolkata, Ahmedabad & Guwahati, India.
Forest-PLUS 3.0 is a three-year program of USAID implemented by Tetra Tech in India from December 2023 to December 2026. The purpose of the program is to provide technical assistance that supports the Government of India to strengthen sustainable, inclusive and data-driven management of forest landscapes. Forest-PLUS 3.0 will build on, scale up, and institutionalize at a national level the solutions developed and piloted by Forest-PLUS 2.0, which was implemented from Dec 2018 to Dec 2023, to support India’s forest-based climate mitigation commitments by: (1) improving the sustainable management and eco-restoration of forest landscapes through technological innovations; and (2) strengthening the institutional and enabling environment for inclusive and resilient forest ecosystems.
Position Description/Summary:
The Regional Director will work under the direction of the Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach Specialist and will be based at the Kolkata/Ahmedabad/Guwahati office of Forest-PLUS 3.0. The Regional Director will have the primary responsibility of scaling up the use of Van system as well as the other technology-based tools in his/her region. The role of the Regional Director will be to provide operational leadership for scaling up and expansion activities in the region, establish relationship and liaise with the State Forest Departments, program partners and other stakeholder groups in the region.
Responsibilities:
- Liaise and work closely with the Forest Department at the state and division levels for effective implementation of the Program activities in the region especially the scaling up and expansion of the technology-based tools developed under Forest-PLUS 2.0
- Support the IT team in carrying out need assessment with SFDs and other stakeholder groups for expanding the scope and functionality of the technology-based tools
- Work with SFDs, other govt departments and other stakeholder groups for the development and use of the ecosystem services monitoring framework and ecosystem services valuation tool
- Contribute to the development of regional and state strategies and develop regional work plans
- Build rapport and coordinate with key stakeholder groups such as local communities, NGOs and various government departments/ agencies for effective implementation of the Program activities in the region
- Coordinate with forest training institute and other govt agencies to organize and facilitate training programs for staff especially women from State Forest Departments and other govt departments, community members and other stakeholder groups
- Facilitate meetings and workshops at the regional and state level
- Translate key documents collected from the region as well Program-generated documents between English and selected regional language[s]
- Support the development and dissemination of communication materials developed under the Program (after translation where appropriate) to target audience groups within the landscape
- Attend various Program-related meetings and providing inputs into different reports and communications materials, as required.
- Identify and develop success stories under the Program as ‘case studies’ for wider dissemination
- Provide logistical support to other Program team members and partners during field visits to the landscape
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree and Minimum of 5 years’ relevant professional experience in a relevant field, such as natural resource management (NRM), international development, or other related discipline.
- A good understanding of the functioning of the state forest departments in India and exposure to the forest management practices in India.
- Knowledge of the ecosystem approach to forest management and the fundamentals of ecosystem services
- Highly organized individuals able to pay close attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with all levels and functions within the company.
- Ability to work as a member of a team of professionals in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
- Strong computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Word.
- Must be willing to travel across to the program states and other places as required.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken is required.
