Job Description

The Programme Associate will support the assignments of the Fellow and Lead – International Cooperation, covering major projects, internal and external relationships, activities, and research. The split of core research to engagement would be 70:30. The research will draw from organisational sources as well as government and third-party content, and cover all sectors of CEEW’s work, plus national and international energy, climate and governance policy developments.

IMPORTANT | This position involves intense and frequent interactions with other IC members and CEEW teams, as well as external stakeholders, to deliver on major institutional objectives. Given the seniority of stakeholders and the fast pace of international developments, this role needs rapid response, high relevance and accuracy of output, and ability to regularly and consistently manage and deliver in high-pressure situations.

KRAs will include:

  • Co-authoring at least 3 substantive research outputs with primary and secondar research, including 2 issue briefs and 1 report on IC’s subjects. Issue briefs are ~16 pages; a report is ~42 pages; are subsets of projects.
  • Doing research and preparing memos and briefing notes for Fellow and Lead – IC, and on occasion, the CEO, to support their high-level engagements with national and international stakeholders (government, multilateral, industry, civil society). At least 90% delivery on time in full for assigned memos (frequent).
  • Customising CEEW’s research for key stakeholders and taking their inputs on how CEEW’s work can inform national and international energy, resource and climate strategies and policies. Gain fluency in CEEW’s 15 programmatic areas and developing the capacity to frame narratives.
  • Supporting strategic stakeholder engagement for select IC projects in close coordination with the Fellow and Lead - IC. KRA will include supporting at least 20% of IC’s major relationships.
  • CEEW operates in a dynamic environment and the candidate will need to show flexibility in undertaking a variety of tasks.

Job Responsibilities

Research

  • Track political, business and technology-related developments on energy, industry, the environment, and developmental pathways of India in the context of national priorities, international governance, trade, finance and socioeconomic dimensions. This includes tracking CEEW’s sectoral research and publications to connect the dots between CEEW’s work and the global scenario.
  • Prepare briefing notes and minutes of meetings for the Fellow and Lead – International Cooperation’s engagements with senior government officials, industry captains, multilateral organisations, and other stakeholders. Ensure pre- and post-engagement follow-ups, and nurture cordial, mutually rewarding relationships with stakeholders.
  • Write policy memos, issue briefs and reports based on official sources, including CEEW’s research, and when required, in consultation with sectoral teams.
  • As decided in consultation with the Fellow and Lead – International Cooperation, engage in deeper research projects, particularly on geopolitics, energy and climate governance, and international negotiations.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Manage major accounts as part of IC’s stakeholder engagements.
  • Manage the delivery of stakeholder interactions such as events, roundtables and webinars.

Own work management

  • Intelligently manage content using Google-based email, calendar, and Drive systems, and CEEW hashtags.
  • Strictly follow CEEW’s SOPs for activities and publications and inculcate that in collaborators.
  • Meet deadlines on time and in full, without any further micromanagement by the manager.
  • Arrive for meetings in good time ensuring full preparation, including IT systems and documents.
  • Set a positive example of high-quality work with impactful outcomes for the team and the institution.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum Master’s degree, preferably with specialisation in energy, sustainability, or IR

Work experience:

  • At least 6-8 years of relevant work experience.
