The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, is a business school, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is one of the Indian Institutes of Management and was accorded the status of an Institute of National Importance by the Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India in 2017.
Job Description
The candidates will be expected to assist with ongoing research projects in Economics and Finance. The work will involve empirical and theoretical analysis. The candidate will be expected to be well versed with basic econometrics and causal analysis (e.g. difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity designs).
Empirical work will involve coding and running surveys and experiments, collecting, organizing, visualizing, and analyzing data (both large-scale and small-scale data sets), and writing reports. Theoretical work will include organizing related literature, replicating papers and (potentially) solving models.
The work is best suited to a student seeking to obtain pre-doctoral research experience in order to transition to a top PhD program in Economics/ finance, or a related discipline including management disciplines.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
Candidates should at-minimum be in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree in Economics / Engineering-disciplines / Statistics / Operations Research / Physics / Applied Mathematics or some other discipline that requires strong mathematical skills.
Candidates with a Master’s degree or higher will be preferred. Candidates must have a good knowledge of at-least programming language one among STATA, R and python. Knowledge of Matlab and LaTeX, and an ability to learn new languages on-the-go would be very useful. Ideally, candidates will have prior experience/training in handling data sets. Candidates with a good understanding of econometric techniques, economic concepts, and good communication skills in English will be given preference. There should be an open mind to learning new concepts. We appreciate creativity and hard work. Relevant letters of recommendation are welcome, but not necessary.
