Job Description
The Senior Manager, City engagements and Implementation will act as a key focal point for taking forward long-term climate action planning and C40 engagement coordination within the cities. The position will be responsible for engaging internal and external stakeholders; facilitating knowledge transfer across the cities - both C40 member cities and non-C40 cities; and working with C40 teams and consultants to provide high-quality tailored technical assistance to support locally-led efforts.
The person will be responsible for ensuring the appropriate stakeholder engagement for inputs into city Climate Action Plans and tracking and checking the quality of data provided. They will be responsible for supporting the C40 team in organising events, workshops or meetings as required.
The ideal candidate will have excellent project management and communication skills, a strong background in stakeholder engagement; working with cities on climate action planning; climate risk assessments, climate action implementation and stakeholder engagements.
Job Responsibilities
Working closely with cities in the region, C40’s Regional Director and reporting manager, the Senior Manager, City Engagements and Implementation will develop and implement a delivery strategy for selected cities towards implementation of selected high impact actions based on Paris Agreement compliant Climate Action Plans and C40’s global/regional strategy. The post holder may also be required to support cities in meeting the requirements of the C40 Leadership Standards, ensure city engagement towards implementation projects, and deliver on planned events towards this goal.
Main areas of responsibility are:
- Develop a strategy to support C40’s South and West Asia cities in the implementation of key priority actions from their Climate Actions Plans and C40’s current programmes and activities, aligned to the Leadership Standards.
- Work with the team to lead delivery of C40 climate action programmes in the region, with a particular focus on climate action planning, mainstreaming activities and regional implementation programmes in the region.
- Contribute to some city’s climate action planning and updation of plans to deliver mitigation and adaptation outcomes, inclusive low-carbon resilient development consistent with the ambitions of the Paris Agreement;
- Contribute to track and lead contracts and procurements related to the Climate Implementation and Mainstreaming work in South and West Asia including consultant management
- Work with C40’s Regional Director in developing and executing strategies to ensure alignment with national and sub-national policies and with support programmes from other development partners to further accelerate the implementation of city climate actions.
- Coordinate the identification and establishment of critical partnerships, including fundraising opportunities towards delivery of key priority actions.
- Ensure the collection of data for reporting on all programme related KPIs.
- Ensure coordination and linkages with all other C40 teams, including City Solutions and Networks, City Diplomacy, Finance, etc. towards a unified and coordinated city support strategy for the region.
- Organise and deliver stakeholder engagement activities, such as webinars, conferences, workshops, knowledge products etc in coordination with C40 teams
- Support tracking the cities performance on Leadership Standards and ensure associated activities for cities to meet the requirements
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Post graduate degree in environmental/ climate science, public policy, environmental engineering, urban/ environmental planning, urban design, development, or related subjects.
- Significant experience in government, business or NGO sectors with a focus on sustainability and/or climate change, and experience working with or within municipal governments in roles related to climate implementation/ sustainability, leading projects/ teams towards delivery
- Knowledge of the urban governance, institutional mechanisms at sub-national/national level
- Proficiency in speaking and reading at least 1 regional language is preferred (in addition to English)
- Excellent problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities, with good MS Excel, data management and analysis skills
- Cross sectoral understanding of urban and climate change aspects in Indian city context.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship building, and negotiation skills as well as written and verbal communication skills, combined with English fluency.
- Demonstrable problem-solving, budget and people management experience, including working with third party delivery teams, and ability to manage multiple parallel tasks;
- Experience of coordinating and facilitating interactive and enquiry-based workshops.
- International experience, working online, working across different cultures, languages and time zones.
