Job Description

The State Program Officer (SPO) will work under the overall guidance of the State Program Representative to support the implementation of programs in Adolescent, Maternal, Child Health and Nutrition, and Food Fortification in Gujarat. S/he will be responsible for providing technical support and coordination to such programs in collaboration with state government.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical inputs in strategy development, support program planning at state level and facilitate program delivery
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the Departments of Health; Women and Child Development (WCD); Tribal Welfare, Education, PM Poshan, Food and Civil Supplies and FDCA in the implementation of NI-supported programs including Adolescent and Maternal Health and Nutrition (AMB, RKSK, Implementation Research, etc), and Food Fortification (Double Fortified Salt and Fortified Rice) as approved under the NI country plan for India;
  • Support SPR, to work closely with State Government in preparation of annual planning and budgeting processes by facilitating inclusion of all program components and sufficient resources for successful implementation of the program.
  • Support state in calculation of targets and estimates for procurement of DFS, IFA (adolescent & maternal), Zinc and ORS and other MN supplies and inclusion of correct specification of MNs in the tender document.
  • Monitor implementing agency /agencies work-plan deliverables, targets and key performance indicators and provide necessary feedback to the SPRs, NPM/NPO;
  • Develop agenda for quarterly capacity building, planning and review meetings of the partner NGO staff, summarize key challenges  and update the SPR on progress
  • Provide support to SPR in stakeholder liaison, including meetings, visits, responding to requests for information, assisting with advocacy needs in-country such as media events or launches of programme elements.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • You will have a Master degree in public health or nutrition (basic degree in medicine is desirable) with at least 5 years of work experience in developing and implementing Public Health and Nutrition programs at state level. Your three years of experience in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition related programs is also desirable. Fluency in English & Hindi, both reading and writing is essential. Good oral and written skills in Gujarati would be desirable.
