About the Organization
The National Institute of Urban Affairs is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. It is a premier institute dedicated to advancing research, capacity building and knowledge dissemination in the urban sector.
Its mission is to promote pioneering research and expertise to advance integrated urban solutions, and build a robust discourse on emergent urban issues. It is achieved through training, and capacity development initiatives, collaborating closely with state governments and urban local bodies.
Job Description
- Support in developing a robust methodology for estimating city-level GDP, ensuring alignment with national and international economic frameworks (e.g., UN System of National Accounts, World Bank guidelines).
- Support in identifying and refining suitable GDP estimation techniques, such as production, expenditure, or income approaches, and adapt them for subnational analysis.
- Conduct literature reviews on global best practices for city GDP estimation.
- Identify relevant data sources, including national statistics, municipal records, business surveys, etc.
- Support in develop frameworks for data cleaning, validation, and integration to ensure consistency across multiple datasets.
- Use statistical and econometric techniques to analyze economic activities in different city sectors.
- Prepare detailed research reports, policy briefs, and working papers outlining methodology, data sources, and key findings.
- Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned by the team leader/Director
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- A Master’s degree from a recognised academic/professional institution in Economics, Statistics (specialisation: Econometrics), Data Analytics, Population Studies or Demography or related fields (Ph. D. desirable).
- Minimum 5-8 years of relevant work experience, in multidisciplinary research projects, or consultancy work environment.
- Proficiency in research methodologies, quantitative and qualitative analysis tools, survey design and methods, documenting and communicating research outputs.
- Knowledge of softwares like R, STATA, SPSS etc. mandatory. Knowledge of GIS software is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of employment related secondary data sources (CMIE, IHDS and ASI) and other data sources such as Census of India, NSSO
