About the Organization
Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) was formed in 1998 in response to the many crises confronting India’s wildlife and wild habitats. A team of 3 members set out on a mission to save the environment.
Job Description/Responsibilities
- Review existing literature and gap analysis of India’s online IWT (Illegal Wildlife Trade) data sources, wildlife crime patterns, and trends, to develop a baseline for the empirical data collection, analysis, and data improvement of existing databases.
- Analyze data to identify and map criminal networks, assessing threat levels using various factors, including perpetrators, locations, species involved, methods of transit, and associations with other illicit goods.
- Undertake analysis of IWT information collated through varied sources and using data visualization techniques to produce a comprehensive Illegal wildlife report
- Organize training of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques for targeted enforcement officials and frontline staff with the support of Project Head.
- Develop resource kits for effective information and training needs
- In conjunction with in-house comms team, highlight the issue of IWT in online platforms and its impact on conservation of threatened wildlife at large.
- Develop and publish scholarly articles based on the team’s finding of IWT in Online platforms, with a focus on India and targeted region
- Collaborate closely with project head to spearhead research and analysis of wildlife trade for pertinent policy platforms.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Masters degree or equivalent in computer application, data science, criminology, applied statistics, ecology, or a field related to Cyber-crime is necessary.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of five years’ experience with the collection, collation and data visualization of scientific data
Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of key trends in wildlife conservation policies and issues related to the trade in wild animals and plants
- Dissertation or Project work related to wildlife crime control will be given added preference.
- Proficiency in compiling and analyzing data using Excel and GIS software is required, with experience in statistical analysis being beneficial.
- Familiarity with India’s Wild life (Protection) Act, 1972
- Proficiency in English and other Indian Languages with good writing skills is mandatory.
- Having proficiency is writing scholarly articles will be given extra preference.
- Strong attention to detail and a keen interest in identifying and uncovering connections within data is Essential
