About the Organization
The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for leading centrally co-ordinated strategy, policy and capabilities in relation to national security, law enforcement, immigration and customs, emergency management, countering terrorism and violent extremism, cyber security, countering foreign interference, critical infrastructure protection, multi-cultural affairs, social cohesion and transport security. Home Affairs contributes to achieving three principal government outcomes of strong national security, a strong economy and a prosperous and cohesive society together with delivering a wide range of temporary and permanent visas.
The Department of Home Affairs at the Australian High Commission New Delhi is Australia’s largest overseas visa processing office. This team is responsible for delivering a wide range of temporary and permanent visas, in addition to limited types of citizenship services, across India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Job Description
The Home Affairs Coordination Manager (Locally Engaged Designate) will work under the limited direction of the Home Affairs Minister Counsellor and other Australia Based (A-based) officers to support and further Home Affairs’ agenda in the South Asia region. The Coordination Manager will lead activities and provide support across the breadth of Home Affairs’ portfolio functions.
The role requires a highly organised individual with excellent communication skills to provide high level support and advice for international engagement efforts in the region. The Coordination Manager will be accountable for organising their own workflow and managing competing priorities.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison point between the Minister Counsellor and Home Affairs officers in Australia as required, covering the breadth of the Home Affairs Portfolio. This includes maintaining effective communication and ensuring timely responses to enquiries.
- Support the Minister Counsellor and other A-based officers in South Asia with international engagement and administrative support on Home Affairs priority activities.
- Develop, strengthen and maintain relationships with local authorities and host governments and undertake representational visits as required.
- Support the Minister Counsellor in managing capacity building projects across the Region.
- Undertake research and monitor relevant media to prepare and compile briefing materials, reports and correspondence.
- Coordinate and manage logistics for Ministerial and Senior Officials’ visits and Home Affairs events.
- Provide a high level of support to Home Affairs A-based staff including promoting a good understanding of Australian government and community expectations within the office.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- The successful candidate must be able to obtain an Australian Security Clearance which requires citizenship of Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand or the United States.
- Proven experience in an administrative or support role, preferably within a government or diplomatic environment.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to research and analyse information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
